Oracle Database Architect

Opportunity: Permanent position
Location: 4 days onsite per week
Salary: Base £120,000 – £140,000 + attractive bonuses
 

Job Summary:  The Oracle Database Architect will lead the design, optimization, and governance of our enterprise Oracle database infrastructure. This is a strategic role that requires expertise in Oracle Exadata platforms and the ability to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while defining our database infrastructure strategy. The ideal candidate will communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders and ensure accurate budgeting for Oracle database technologies with strong security and compliance controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute enterprise database infrastructure strategy as primary technical authority for Oracle database architecture with a specialized focus on Oracle Exadata platforms
  • li>Lead deployment, configuration, and optimization of Oracle platforms, leveraging advanced features while establishing performance tuning methodologies and disaster recovery protocols
  • Design data models, physical schemas, and partitioning strategies for high-volume workloads while overseeing database upgrades and patch deployment with minimal disruption
  • Implement robust security and compliance controls within Oracle database environments, ensuring regulatory adherence and establishing access controls, encryption standards, and audit mechanisms
  • Collaborate with development teams and effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, including senior management and business analysts
  • Manage vendor relationships, procurement processes, and license negotiations while ensuring accurate budgeting for Oracle database technologies and optimizing licensing costs
  • Maintain technical documentation for architectures and configurations while developing database standards, best practices, and operational guidelines

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical discipline
  • Oracle certifications (Oracle Certified Professional or Oracle Certified Master) are highly preferred
  • AT least 8 years of infrastructure experience working as an Oracle database architect
  • Proven track record in high-pressure, mission-critical environments with 24/7 operational requirements
  • Extensive experience working in extremely high-speed data processing and high-frequency data operations
  • Extensive experience with Oracle Exadata platforms, including configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on expertise with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, ASM, RMAN, and advanced performance tuning techniques
  • Deep understanding of Oracle database architecture, including advanced features and optimization techniques
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) for installation, upgrades, administration, and monitoring
  • Knowledge of database virtualization technologies, particularly Delphix and virtual database deployment
  • Understanding of database licensing models and cost optimization strategies
  • Strong security and compliance knowledge specific to Oracle database environments
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven vendor management skills, including accurate budgeting for Oracle database technologies, contract negotiation, and relationship management

Deliver actionable insights through advanced analytics, and compelling data storytelling to support business decision making and innovation

**Youu2019ll need to have a strong combination of the following:**

A PhD or Master's degree in Data Science, Economics, Statistics or a related quantitative field
3+ years' experience designing research studies as well as performing analysis such as data profiling, predictive modelling, and causal analysis
Strong coding skills ideally in Python and experience with SQL for data querying
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and a collaborative development workflow (e.g., GitHub, GitLab)
Experience working in a data quality, data governance, or data management environment is a major plus (knowledge of DAMA, DCAM, etc. is welcome)
Excellent project management skills and the ability to communicate complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Knowledge of financial markets and Bloomberg products is a plus

You will help build and implement Data Quality procedures and processes alongside doing route cause analysis work using SQL build scorecards and leveraging data profiling tools.


The experience you'll need

  • As a Hands-on fixer of data! You'll have to be competent in using SQL for fetching and manipulating data
  • Experience with metadata and Data Quality tools
  • Experience helping develop and implement a Data Management framework, along with embedding policies and processes around this
  • Ensure business rules and validation are fit for purpose and built into systems
  • Experience working with a large and complex business - Financial services experience would be a plus

**Overview of Resource Management Team:**



The goal of the team is to provide a u201cone stop solutionu201d for the supply and demand of people across Technology. Ensuring all resource management processes are robust, and deliver the necessary outcomes for Technology. We achieve this by ensuring that resource data is accurate, complete and available on a timely basis through various reporting deliverables. The team work closely with HR, Finance, Project Governance, Project Delivery, Procurement and Technology leads to inform and educate, as well as executing changes directly. The team is divided into two main functions, the role in question fits within the Technology Resource Data Management sub-team.



**Resource Data Management** u200b


Manage cleaning resource data in workday. u200b
Run training via the new starter induction and creation of org charts on Kizuna. u200b


Creation of headcount reporting data monthly / quarterly / annually.u200b



**Technology Recruitment** u200b


Process all recruitment requests for BAU and Project. Monitoring budget against hiring / replacing / extending staff. u200b
Creation of recruitment and rate reporting.u200b

**The primary purpose of the Resource Data Management Analyst is to:**


Own and clean the resource data in workday which is the golden source. The team receives updates on resource data from multiple sources for example line managers and business supports. From that point onwards the teams is to educate others to follow the process, rather than our team completing the actions.
Own, produce and publish the headcount data per month, per quarter and annual with the use of excel and power BI.



**Key Responsibilities:**


Lead daily team stand up via teams.
Run daily checks on resource data changes/updates in workday. Method for this is a combination of excel macros and power queries
Creation of weekly reporting to HR to highlight changes. Method for this is excel macros.
Creation of weekly reporting to line managers to highlight contingent worker end dates within the next 10 weeks. Method for this is excel macros.
Co-ordinating with the line managers, HR, procurement and access management regarding JML process.
Creation of monthly headcount reporting. Method for this is a combination of excel and power BI.
Ensure resource cost data is accurate for reporting into Finance to calculate budgets.
Creation of office attendance for contingent workers. Method for this is excel macros.
Run the Technology new starter induction, which occurs twice a month.
Creation of the Technology organisation chart. Method for this is via Visio.
Maintain and enhance good working relationships with the teams stakeholders.



**Skills and Experience:**



Technical Capability


Strong excel skills. Be able to build and run macros and power queries.
Strong power BI skills. Be able to build and update reporting in power BI.
Strong visio skills. Be able to create workflows and org charts.
Strong numerical skills. To aid day-to-day activities.
Degree level educated. Although equivalent work experience, or apprentice level experience also relevant.

**About this role:**
The International Data Management team is part of the CIB Data Management team, supporting EMEA & APAC regions. Team is located globally, with presence in London, U.S, Dublin, Singapore & India. The team supports all the businesses and functions within the region and is responsible for creating data sourcing plans for various use cases, end to end management of data quality issues, implementation of enterprise data governance frameworks, assessment of data management risks & supporting adherence to BCBS 239 requirements.

We're seeking a seasoned data management professional to lead data advisory projects supporting International (EMEA & APAC regions). Key part of the role will be liaising with international stakeholders to understand data requirements & data issues and work through the lifecycle of the requirements for delivering the stakeholder requirements on a timely basis.

**In this role, you will:**
+ Partner with key stake holders (e.g. Finance & Risk reporting teams in the region) global upstream & tech partners) and create data sourcing plan to cater for new regulatory reporting requirements and for strategic data remediation
+ Maintain data sourcing plan to highest standards (e.g. capturing updates to the plan on a timely basis, updating JIRA with relevant artefacts)
+ Lead end to end data quality resolution (e.g. Data issue triage, performing root cause analysis, partnering with global stakeholders in driving resolutions)
+ Take a lead on internal & external audit requests on the data enablement function (e.g. understanding the requirements, providing relevant artefacts on a timely basis, ability to clearly explain the process & artefacts to the audit)
+ Propose proactive & reactive controls to help strengthen the accuracy of the data
+ Understand strategic initiative that are underway at Enterprise/International level and assess its impact on the existing data requirements & data defects
+ Prepare and present materials on data sourcing plan & data defects in relevant data councils & senior stakeholder forums (e.g. Steerco)
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Extensive working experience within Banking
+ Strong experience in data management directly or in combination with Data Quality, Data Enablement or Data Stewardship
+ Good understanding of Investment banking & Commercial banking products
+ Exposure to regulatory reporting and project management
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills. With ability to articulate technical details in plain language to the stakeholders
+ Strong ability to work independently & exercise independent judgement to identify and resolve problems
+ Exposure to JIRA & SQL will be advantageous
