Job Description
Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Social Worker to join their Children's Services team in **Edinburgh, Scotland**. This crucial role involves managing a caseload of complex cases, providing direct support to children and families, and supervising junior members of the team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of child protection legislation, assessment frameworks, and intervention strategies. You will play a key role in safeguarding vulnerable children, facilitating positive outcomes, and promoting effective working relationships with partner agencies.

- Undertake comprehensive assessments of children and families, identifying needs and risks.
- Develop, implement, and review care plans in collaboration with children, families, and relevant professionals.
- Manage a complex caseload, ensuring timely and effective interventions.
- Conduct child protection investigations, including Section 47 enquiries, and prepare reports for case conferences and court proceedings.
- Provide emotional and practical support to children and their families, empowering them to achieve positive change.
- Supervise and mentor junior social workers and students, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
- Liaise effectively with other agencies, including schools, health services, police, and voluntary organizations, to ensure coordinated support.
- Prepare court statements and represent the service in legal proceedings when required.
- Participate in duty rotas and out-of-hours responses as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in accordance with statutory requirements and service policies.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery and promote best practice within the team.
- Degree in Social Work (e.g., DipSW, BA Social Work) or equivalent qualification.
- Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
- Significant post-qualifying experience in children's social work, including experience in child protection and court work.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures (e.g., Children (Scotland) Act 1995, Getting it Right for Every Child framework).
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking complex assessments and developing effective care plans.
- Excellent report writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Strong leadership and supervision skills.
- Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and promoting equality.
- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle is essential for this role.
