p> Full time Permanent p>Chelmsford Mail Centre, CM2 5AAAs a Work Area Manager, you will work in the busy Chelmsford mail centre and be responsible for managing operations in a specified area.
Shift Pattern
Monday to Friday 22:00 - 06:12. Flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the unit.
What does the role involve?
Leading a dedicated team of up to 16 direct employees, and up to an additional 16 across the shift, you will hold regular one to one and team meetings and review the area’s performance and plans on a daily basis. Championing health and safety initiatives, increasing efficiency, and identifying areas of improvements will be essential to your role.
Supporting the Shift Manager, you will provide a high quality of service to our customers and ensure all operational targets are met. With line management responsibility you’ll manage your team’s sick absence, attendance, training and development and you’ll get involved in our programme of continuous improvement.

Our client is a leading food manufacturing company, the site is part of a larger national organisation. Due to growth and further expansion within the factory, they are looking for a number of experienced Night Shift Engineers to join their team.
Role & Responsibilities:
* Electrical & mechanical maintenance, PPM's, and repairs
* Working on a variety of high-speed production & packaging machinery, conveyors, food processing equipment, refrigeration, chillers, site services, ventilation
* Dealing with motors, drives, gearboxes, pumps hydraulics, pneumatics, sensors, compressors
* Project work - new machine installs, upgrades & continuous improvement work
* PLC - electrical fault finding
* Identify spare parts, raise stock & non-stock requests
* Record all work on CMMS (Pirana) System
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
* Looking for a multi-skilled engineer - ideally electrically biased
* Must have worked in food manufacturing
* NVQ Level 3 Apprenticeship (or equivalent) Engineering Qualification
* Beneficial to have 18th Edition
* Electrical fault finding & mechanical fitting experience
* Dealt with pneumatics, hydraulics, gearboxes, drives, pumps, compressors
* Ideally have worked on boilers & steam systems - beneficial to be BOAS certified
* PLC - electrical fault finding

Role summary:
The Shift Manager role reports to the Operations Manager and leads and manages all aspects of the daily shift operation in a cost effective and productive manner. The Shift Manager will be responsible for ensuring that service is in line with Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicator targets. This key leadership role will also effectively manage all colleagues on the shift to ensure all Customer expectations are achieved.

- Lead and manage the warehousing operation for the shift ensuring the effective and accurate sortation of goods.

- Managing costs and performance of the shift
- Lead and engage a team to drive excellent customer service
- Effective management of performance, conduct, absence, engagement and training and development of team members, holding people accountable to agreed departmental and company standards.
- Monitor KPI's, identify and communicate associated actions and highlight areas for improvement.
- Provide a shift summary and handover record with any exceptions detailed and actioned.
Essential criteria for this role
- Previous experience in the logistics or distribution industry

- Air Conditioning - Air Handling Units / Fan Coil Unit (Filter changes, cleaning)
