Healthcare Assistant- Sexual Health - Coventry Sexual Health Hub Job Introduction

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Sexual Health Healthcare Assistant to join our team at the Coventry and Warwickshire Sexual Health Hub. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality sexual health services to our diverse patient population. Your responsibilities will include conducting non-invasive clinical tasks, such as taking patient histories, processing samples, and offering valuable information and advice on sexual health matters. You will also be instrumental in maintaining patient confidentiality, ensuring a safe and respectful environment, and helping patients access appropriate care and treatment.

We have various hours available, this role does require flexibility, as travel to various locations across the service in Coventry and Warwickshire will be expected.

Main Responsibility

Following completion of any relevant training, completion of competencies, and with support the post holder will be able to;

  • Follow all policies and protocols pertaining to role, reporting any concerns or issues to lead nurses/administration manager.
  •  Provide first point of contact to patients assessed as requiring asymptomatic screening management 
  • Undertake necessary tests including phlebotomy, urinalysis and instruction to patients regarding self-testing for STI’s and long-term conditions such as HIV (where required)Be willing to undergo further training that will enhance service delivery and improve outcomes for patients
  • Undertake microscopy following approved training to support the management of clinical symptoms and report finding to the clinician responsible for care. 
  •  Assist with the correct collection and recording of specimens 
  • Offer advice and education to patients regarding safe sex practices and offer information regarding further help and advice 
  • Perform condom demonstration to clients and understand the importance of education 
  • Perform pregnancy testing and urinalysis following instruction from Clinical colleagues 
  • Assist Clinical staff as necessary including recording of blood pressure, height, weight and BMI.

As a Healthcare Assistant you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary Ward team under the supervision of the registered nurse, where you will provide support to trained staff in the health and personal care of inpatients within the Ward.

You’ll join a team who are focused on exceeding the needs of patients within our Kestrel Ward and will support the delivery of care to a range of complex patients which include: meeting the clinical need of patients with life limiting conditions, supporting rapid discharge for those patients reaching end of life and helping prevent any unnecessary hospital admissions to a patient in crisis. 

The work is varied and interesting. Striving to successfully provide healthcare can be both challenging and rewarding and our services are developing to meet the needs of the local population.

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) based at Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital. 

Main Responsibility

Within this role you will:

  • Communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary team, medical, clinical nursing colleagues and staff from other support departments
  • Actively seek ways to improve the quality of the service provided.
  • Recognise when to refer to the trained nurse, contribute to the assessment and care planning process by communicating any concerns you may have or that are expressed by a patient or carer to the registered nurse.
  • Report changes in patients conditions to qualified nurses and ensure it is documented. Ensure all interventions are appropriately recorded and care plans are maintained to required standards.
  • Actively promote the health and wellbeing of patients attending the department.
  • Remove dressings and applying simple dressings when trained and competent.
The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organisation skills and have the ability to recognise own abilities and work within sphere of competence. We are looking for someone who is a friendly, approachable team player who can work flexibly and will ensure they deliver positive experiences to patients at every stage of their healthcare journey.

It is desirable that you have experience dealing with the general public within a healthcare setting however it is not essential that you have worked in a care setting before as we provide full training when in post.

Main Responsibility

Within this role you will:

  • To assist in providing nursing care as delegated by the Senior Sister/Team Sister within patient’s homes.
  • To maintain knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to deliver a quality service that is responsive to the changing needs of patients.
  • To provide clerical and administrative support to the team as delegated by the Senior Sister/Teaam Sister.
  • To undertake the technical aspects of nursing care e.g. Dressings, glucose monitoring etc. following a period of training and when deemed competent to do so.
  • To implement evidence-based nursing care, within the patient’s home.
  • To have the ability to work unsupervised, planning and organising tasks and home visits as delegated by the nurse in charge.
  •  Maintain accurate and legible patient records in line with professional and organisational requirements – this includes electronic patient record system (CIS) and any paper records
The Ideal Candidate

This is an opportunity to put your NVQ level 2/3 or the equivalent appropriate qualification/experience to great use. With strong communication and organisation skills, and a flexible approach will ensure you deliver positive experiences to patients at every stage of their healthcare journey.

In this role, you will need to be able to travel across the patch in a timely manner so a UK driving license is needed and access to a car.

You will also need to be confident using IT systems and be able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel.

Working within a multidisciplinary team your experience in diagnosing, managing, and treating a wide range of acute and chronic conditions will be essential in ensuring positive health outcomes for our patients within the North Kent community. You will support the delivery of care to a range of complex patients which will include: life limiting conditions like diabetes, in dwelling long term catheter, urgent wound care etc.

This role covers both Dartford and Gravesend, you may need to work in both Livingstone Community Hospital and Gravesham Community Hospital.

Main Responsibility

Your main responsibilties will include:

  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for patients presenting with an undifferentiated diagnosis
  • Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective, and plan clinical care accordingly
  • Proactively identify, diagnose, and manage treatment plans for patients at risk of developing a long term condition (as appropriate)
  • Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating both drug- and non-drug based treatment methods into a management plan
  • Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice
  • Work with patients to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments.
  • Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side-effects, and interactions

Key duties include:
