Key Accountabilities

  • To report monthly on location/site or framework performance including safety, budget and time.

  • To ensure that works being undertaken are executed to the required standards of quality and in compliance with the design intent.
  • Frequently engages with the Director – Industrial Services and finance representative to ensure accurate financial forecasts are provided in support of the overall IS strategy and performance.
  • Lead representative for the IS location/site or framework at the IS monthly management meeting with responsibility for presenting an update on operations and prospects.
  • Manage all personnel involved in the delivery of IS scope on the location/site or framework including Project Managers, Construction Managers, site Managers, Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveyors, Planners, Supervisors, Engineers, Operatives and Subcontractors.
  • Communicates effectively to all parties involved in the delivery of IS scope on the location/site or framework.
  • Directs the IS team in implementation of the works.
  • Produces monthly reports covering (as a minimum) Progress against budgets, safety, health & environment, expenditure, risks, mitigations, and opportunities.
  • Ensure anyone deployed on IS projects follow company QMS standards and procedures.
  • Ensure good communication and coordination with all NUVIA disciplines and Business Lines such as HP&S and Engineering in support of IS scope.
  • Communicate professionally, effectively, and clearly both verbally and in writing both internally within Nuvia and with other key stakeholders such as the client, subcontractors and regulators.
  • Responsible for Nuvia’s relationship with client on the location/site or framework.
  • Responsible for undertaking Personal Development Reviews (PDR) with direct reports and for ensuring that development plans are reviewed and updated throughout the year.
  • Responsible for setting objectives that align with the IS strategy.
  • Ensuring that all personnel who are to work at the location/site or framework are Suitable Qualified or Experienced (SQEP)
  • Engagement with relevant unions at locations/sites
  • Industrial relations engagement with personnel
  • Working with commercial and finance team members to ensure timely invoicing and payments

Occupational Skills and Knowledge

  • A qualification within either an engineering or related field.
  • Project Management related qualification


Duties and Requirements

Essential:

  • An appropriate degree level or equivalent qualification (Level 6) relevant to the role scope
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of the Nuclear Industry
  • Minimum 10 years within a highly regulated multi-discipline environment
  • Member or Associate Member of a recognised institution (APM, CIOB, ICE, IStructE, IMechE etc)
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • A full UK driver’s license
  • Engineering or Project Management experience delivering different forms of contract
  • Direct and demonstrable experience of involvement in the provision of Passive Fire Protection projects
  • Knowledge of Construction, Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and duty holders responsibilities.
  • Proven track record of work winning and delivery.

The successful candidate will serve as the lead safety expert for projects, providing comprehensive technical guidance, guide procurement and facilitate design processes to ensure compliance, lead proactive safety initiatives through and develop and implement comprehensive safety programs.
The role will be filled by an experienced Senior Safety Design and Engineering Manager with detailed technical knowledge of EU safety regulations and best practice engineering and procedural controls to reduce risk to operators and maintainers.
Emphasis will be on technical knowledge and the ability to engage with cross functional teams, transforming this knowledge into sound, compliant processes.
They must demonstrate the ability to comprehend and apply technical documents, requirements and solutions, using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements.
This team member should be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing.
They will be required to possess strong safety and relevant environmental and ergonomic knowledge and to demonstrate this expertise when working with increasing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, engineering/facilities or service operations along with Engineering, Design, Construction, Startup and Operations teams.

Key job responsibilities
You will be supporting a wide range of projects being heavily involved in the process, including liaison with other critical support functions such as Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Operations, Procurement, and New Build/Real Estate teams in order to effectively deliver the required right first-time systems safety standards. This is an important safety role and will report to the Sr. Mgr. WHS Design & Startup (Europe).
The extent of your duties will include:
- Define new and update existing technical standards for and process controls, working closely with EU internal experts.
- Generate regular technical updates for the Safety Engineering team on latest safety regulations, standards (ISO, IEC, EN) and emerging technologies to keep the team current with compliance requirements and best practices.
- Look for industry innovation for new, safer risk reduction measures as well as inspection techniques, tools and opportunities for improving performance and reducing impact to stakeholders in terms of time and cost.
- Be the leading WHS technical voice, during projects development to ensure compliance with Amazon standards and regulatory requirements. This includes leading safety technical reviews and risk assessments for all new equipment systems.
- Support Amazon facilities by performing suitable and sufficient risk assessments of all relevant new projects, mentoring and developing other team members whilst doing so.
- Conduct site WHS assessments to ensure all applicable requirements are considered into installation. Create punch lists items using Amazon tools and effectively review corrective measures with relevant teams to ensure mitigation is completed to reduce all risk to an acceptable level.
- Keep tracking data up to date for the inspection program.
- Provide functional working links with other critical functional teams including; Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Procurement, Operations, New Build Safety and Real Estate teams.
- Support procurement processes as well as building design, specification and launch processes to ensure 'right first time' safety outcomes.
- Provide monthly reports on upcoming projects and current in process schemes with clear analytical measures of status and risk.
- Support the development of solutions that meet Amazon high standards for safety, risk reduction, customer satisfaction, efficiency, scalability, simplicity, and operational excellence.
- Instruct and train company personnel on safety policies, assisting the teams in incorporating our safety standards at their respective sites.
- Provide awareness and targeted training on building, systems or machinery safety / engineering risk reduction to stakeholders to influence strategic decision making as well as day-to-day operational decisions.
- Support business change through effective influencing of change management processes within international operations. And provide expert input to change projects, build outs and development projects and act as a technical expert for the EU WHS team.
- Support the delivery of central Health and Safety pro-active objectives.
- Escalate significant concerns and lessons learned identified during inspections and subsequent site visits.
- Plan and arrange own travel applying frugality and efficiency of time on sites.
It is desirable that they will also have technical knowledge of EU machinery safety standards and regulations, robotics and automated conveyors to meet all European country's requirements and lead procurement and implementation of systems across the network.

- A Bachelor degree or equivalent level of qualification in line with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF)
- Extensive experience of Safety Engineering risk management, mainly focused on managing or inspecting machinery safety to EU standards and directives
Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification
- Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
- Master's degree or equivalent
- CMSE - Certified Machinery Expert
- FS Engineer - Functional Safety Engineer (IEC 61508 etc).

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and manage a team of Product Safety and Environmental Engineers in their delivery of Product Safety & Environmental engineering to meet product technical requirements, customer requirements and the needs of the business
  • Ensure each team member is assessed, developed, deployed and skilled to maximise their personal contribution and to meet the requirements of their role, and projects they are assigned
  • Identify safety resource requirements through the lifecycle of the projects and manage safety engineering resource within agreed limits
  • Perform appropriate engineering planning, management and review activities to ensure Products are integrated, safe, fully compliant and delivered within agreed requirements for cost, quality, time with respect to Product and Environmental Safety
  • Ensure capability and skills development, performance optimisation & maximisation and efficient use of engineering and functional resources to meet product environmental and safety targets
  • Review the processes and procedures within the span of control to reduce waste, improve efficiency and establish a dynamic and flexible best in class capability
  • Interface and influence internal and external (customer and other stakeholders) such that product offerings meet safety and environmental requirements
  • Ensure all Torpedo Design & Manufacturing project area safety engineering activities are undertaken in line with the Product Safety Management System Framework and that compliance with all relevant engineering policies is maintained

Your skills and experiences:

  • Subject Matter Expert in the engineering discipline of System Safety. Requires technical breadth & depth in the discipline to be considered a System Safety SME able to support projects, programmes and contracts
  • A deep understanding of and experience in product development through a development lifecycle and working to functional safety standards such as IEC 61508
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of working within a Product Safety Management System (PSMS) within a complex systems environment. Some knowledge of creating, improving or tailoring a PSMS
  • Degree qualified in Engineering/Systems/Safety or equivalent experience in a relevant Safety management discipline. Be a recognised member of a relevant industry wide body, e.g. SCSC, SaRS, IET, IMechE etc
  • Hold significant/relevant knowledge of applicable legislation and standards (e.g. BS EN 61508, Def Stan 00-056, Def Stan 00-055, HASAW, COSHH, REACH, etc .)
