Our client, a dynamic and expanding airline operating out of **Edinburgh, Scotland, UK**, is seeking an exceptional Chief Commercial Pilot to lead their flight operations division. This senior leadership position requires a highly experienced aviator with a strong commercial acumen and a deep understanding of airline management, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of pilot recruitment, training, scheduling, and operational efficiency, ensuring the highest standards of safety and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the pilot group, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement flight operations policies and procedures in compliance with all relevant aviation regulations (e.g., EASA, CAA).
  • Oversee pilot recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes.
  • Manage pilot training programs, including recurrent training, type ratings, and simulator checks.
  • Ensure efficient and effective crew scheduling to meet operational requirements while optimising crew utilisation.
  • Monitor flight operations performance, analyse key metrics, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Act as the primary liaison with aviation authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage the operational budget for the flight department.
  • Ensure the fleet is operated safely, efficiently, and in accordance with scheduled requirements.
  • Oversee and contribute to the development of operational manuals and documentation.
  • Respond to and manage operational disruptions and emergencies.
  • Champion safety culture and lead safety promotion initiatives.
  • Participate in management meetings and contribute to strategic business decisions.
Qualifications:
  • Significant experience as a senior pilot, with a minimum of 10 years in airline operations and at least 5 years in a management or leadership role (e.g., Chief Pilot, Director of Flight Operations).
  • Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) with extensive multi-engine and/or jet aircraft type ratings.
  • Proven experience in managing large pilot groups and overseeing complex flight operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of aviation regulations, safety management systems (SMS), and international aviation standards.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and experience in managing departmental budgets.
  • Experience with crew resource management (CRM) and human factors.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • A degree in Aviation Management, Business Administration, or a related field is highly desirable.
