Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a Piping Designer to support one of our major nuclear clients based out of West Cumbria or Warrington.
The responsibilities for the role will be to:
- Participation in the delivery process including participation and chairing kick off meetings and delivery of documentation
- Oversee the piping & support design (clamp, beams, anchor plate.) and their modelling in the 3D model,
- Preparation of CAD tasks for designers in tracker (until transition to We-CAD) and following up completion, maintain a high quality for all aspects of design in the PDMS model
- Participate in and lead troubleshooting investigations for emergent design issues
- Ensure the right application of the engineering procedures by the designers and the overall consistency of the piping and support design (distance between runs, position of welds and openings, etc.)
- Interface with other departments of the organisation to facilitate closure of issues
- Ensure that the design is mature and can be handed-over to the client, and that the hand-over package fulfils the requirements given by the Project
- Ensure the right level of communication between different stakeholders (calculation team, layout, equipment), propose technical solutions to issues that are found on the generic design concept
Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering degree or suitable diploma
- Experience with EPR-E Piping delivery processes
- Knowledge of piping engineering and plant design principles commensurate with grade
- Proactive and self motivated in completion of tasks
- Ability to meet commitments and deadlines
- Able to follow project engineering procedures
- Ideally have knowledge of Aveva PDMS/E3D or experience with similar plant design packages

Our client Scottish Power are seeking a Lead Plant Design Engineer for a long-term ongoing contract role based at Cambuslang but working on a hybrid basis.
Purpose
Reporting to the Plant Engineering Section Head, you will be responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions, from feasibility to detailed engineering designs, for all plant engineering for transmission networks (132kV and above) including substations and all other associated 33kV and ancillary equipment. This will include providing the necessary basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for projects, innovation, effective technical support, advice and input throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
• Advise on the development of pre-contract design and delivery of projects by leading/supporting the technical aspects of switchgear, transformers and all other associated equipment
• Assess engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance with client requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects.
• Advise on construction and outage programmes where required in relation to plant engineering.
• Responsible for preparing basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for main plant and substations.
• Responsible for providing technical assessment of tender submissions and reporting recommendations to client.
• Define main plant and ancillary apparatus requirements for input to System Construction
Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and BETTA documentation.

Skills and Requirements
We are looking for candidates with ability to represent departments or project teams regarding plant engineering issues, decisions, standards or industry best practice, with good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships with other individuals, departments and businesses.
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate as a minimum:
• Chartered Engineer or working towards
• Engineering degree or equivalent significant experience
• Skills in use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, AutoCAD.
