Plant Maintenance Technician (Fermentation) – Port Talbot - Up to £45k DOE plus excellent benefits
Our client a leading manufacturer of Nutritional Supplements is looking to recruit a Plant Maintenance Technician for their prestigious site based in Port Talbot. The Plant Maintenance Technician will play an integral role in monitoring and maintaining the Fermentation Plant.
Salary: Up to £45k DOE plus excellent benefits.
Location: Port Talbot
Working Hours: Days and Afternoons
Plant Maintenance Technician (Fermentation) Responsibilities:
- Monitoring Steam, including boilers and system operation, components and controls. li>Maintaining compressed air and associated systems.
- Maintaining fluid systems and controls.
- HVAC, humidity control systems.
- Handling liquid nitrogen and industrial gases.
- Maintaining and replacing pumps.
- Maintaining and replacing Valves (including pneumatic, manual and modulating).
- Monitoring and maintaining chemical dosing systems – chemical safety < i>Monitoring pressure vessels, chilled water and vacuum systems/pumps.
The successful candidate:
- An understanding of automated controls / HMI / PLC control of process systems (not necessarily programming). Ability to understand and manipulate systems based upon the P&IDs.
- Ability to modify and set up controllers and system control parameters.
- Experienced with Safe systems of work, especially system isolation.
- Confined spaces experience would be an advantage.
- IOSH – managing safely – beneficial.
- Welding/soldering/grinding/hot works experience would be an advantage but not essential.
- Experience working with a fermentation process would be a distinct advantage.

We are seeking a skilled Plant Maintenance Engineer to provide general mechanical maintenance and electrical support within our maintenance department. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the maintenance and repair of all equipment and facility areas, ensuring optimal operational efficiency and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair all equipment and facility areas to agreed standard, with the ability to identify detailed faults.
- Complete daily checks to machines and equipment, including statuary checks, within skills capabilities and skills approvals.
- To work shift and provide out of hour call in support.
- Identify spares required in proactive timescales.
- All duties shall be undertaken in compliance with Safety, Environmental Regulations and Company procedures.
- An awareness and understanding of responsibilities outlined in the Company's environmental procedures.
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes Required:
- Preferred mechanical or electrical qualification
- Apprenticeship preferred but not essential
- Extensive experience preferably within a similar role within plant maintenance
- Mechanical/electrical background
- Working at heights
- Knowledge of pipework (PVC)
- Good understanding of pumps & motors
- Preferred understanding of gas ovens / chiller units / rectifiers
- Preferred understanding of air handling units / air conditioning
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions
- Ability to use tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Ability to work under pressure with the minimum of supervision
- Copes well under pressure and can deliver what is required
- Can deal with contractors whilst on site
Working Conditions:
- The position requires understanding of working conditions and environment in a COMAH SITE.
- The position requires from time-to-time flexibility in working hours including working overtime at weekends.
- The nature of the job requires the applicant to come into contact with various greases and oils.
- The position involves the training and use of overhead cranes.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Plant Operator looking to work with complex process equipment, including steam turbines, high-pressure boilers, and DCS control systems, as part of a skilled and safety-focused operations team.
Responsibilites of a Plant Operator:
- Monitor and operate the plant’s turbine and boiler systems to maintain optimal steam generation. li>Respond to system alarms, faults, or flow/pressure changes as part of planned or emergency maintenance.
