Gathering data and samples to proactively monitor our watercourses as it's important we understand how healthy they are. Where needed, you'll work with others to improve them.
Being the first responder on potential issues to ensure we mitigate any risk of impact to the environment, coordinating response impact assessments: conducting sampling, taking photographs, and making detailed observations
Digging deep into root causes of issues by supporting investigations so we can gather key lessons to prevent reoccurrence and promote brilliant practice
Being the first port of call for stakeholder liaison during events maintaining relationships in a trusted and transparent way, such as our Regulators, so we can supply timely accurate and compliant data
Making sure pollution mitigation equipment is ready and available for use
Being available out of core hours, on standby, to maintain our excellent pollution response.
Working as an ambassador for Anglian Water you will protect and enhance the environments that we serve while looking for ways to engage with our community groups to support river health improvements.
Your Skills and Experience
Full UK driving licence is essential as you will be visiting lots of our brilliant region's places
A passion for wanting to protect the environment and the desire to learn about our industry.
Experience in the environmental field or water industry is not an imperative however could be beneficial
Being able to work independently, with the right training and support, would be a real plus as you'll be out and about a lot - but you will also get the opportunity to work with lots of different teams day to day too

As a Pollution Compliance Specialist, you’ll be at the heart of our pollution response efforts—using cutting-edge data and environmental expertise to protect our waterways and improve our regulatory performance. You’ll work closely with our Waste Control Room and field teams to ensure incidents are managed effectively and learnings are embedded into future operations. This is a fast-paced, high-impact role where your insights will help shape how we respond to pollution and drive continuous improvement.
- Working core business hours, you will support our 24/7 Pollution Co-Ordination function by liaising with internal and external stakeholders, collating environmental information and logging our response and decision-making as we respond to potential pollution incidents.
- Communicating regularly with our regulators, providing clear and concise updates on environmental incidents and developing positive working relationships.
- Conducting regular checks and reviews of pollution response data to identify areas for improvement and learning, working closely with the management team to trial and implement any changes.
- Monitoring key leading indicator data including weather and Sewage Treatment Works effluent quality to identify trends, instigate resolutions and case manage the follow up actions.
- You will attend wash-ups and learning review meetings following pollutions incidents and apply learnings to drive improvements in the Waste Control Team.
- Participate and represent Waste System Operations in companywide improvement initiatives and projects related to Pollutions.

The purpose of the role is to drive performance and directly impact one of the top three deliverables for Thames Water, pollution reduction. The role will aim to create a low-polluting entity where the events are few between and have minimal environmental impact.
The influence on pollution reduction must be delivered alongside safety and financial performance.
Our environmental performance is monitored and evaluated by our regulators using a range of measures, such as our compliance with our environmental permits, and the number and severity of pollution incidents that we cause, which in turn informs our Environmental Performance Assessment (EPA).
The role will programme manage initiatives delivered by others to ensure that pollution events are few between and have minimal environmental impact.
These initiatives are documented in the pollution incident reduction plan (PIRP) and our turnaround plan. The influence on pollution reduction must be delivered alongside safety and financial performance.
