I am currently working with a leading UK-based Horticulture business. They are a long-established, family-run business with over 60 years of experience and a strong reputation for innovation, efficiency, and quality. Based in New Milton, Hampshire, they employ over 200 people and supply major supermarkets, garden centres, and online retailers across the UK. They're now looking for a driven and hands-on Supply Chain Manager to join their commercial.
What I'll be doing?
As Supply Chain Manager , you'll report to the Commercial Director and take full responsibility for the supply chain team, with a focus on the inbound supply of materials.
Managing the purchasing and planning of all materials required to deliver high-quality products on time and in full
Overseeing long and short-term supply planning, driven by MRP through the ERP system (SAP)
Leading supplier relationship management, developing new supplier partnerships while maintaining existing ones
Working cross-functionally with commercial, production, and quality teams to reduce delays, avoid stockouts, and maintain consistent supply
Managing contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers
Monitoring and reporting key supply chain KPIs to the wider business
Supporting and coaching a small supply chain team (4 People), providing clear direction, structure, and development
Leading on system and process improvement to drive efficiency and reliability
This is not a full-on procurement role. It's more about ensuring the flow of goods through the business is well planned, efficient, and responsive to demand, while keeping communication strong across suppliers and internal teams.
About you
This role is ideal for someone with experience in supply chain management, stock control, or senior buying, ideally within a fast-paced, product-led environment like manufacturing or FMCG. You need to understand what it takes to work with perishable goods.
We're looking for someone with:
Strong supply planning and purchasing experience, ideally with perishable goods or short shelf-life products
Great communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders
Experience using ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred)
A proactive, logical, and detail-oriented mindset, able to spot problems before they happen
Team leadership or management experience, with a positive, coaching approach
A hands-on attitude, someone who thrives during busy periods and brings energy and resilience to the team
A willingness to get stuck in and support colleagues across the business
You don't need to come from horticulture, but experience working with supply chains that include perishable goods, international suppliers, or seasonal surges would be a real plus.
