You will be leading and delivering a range of projects within the Power Systems team, bidding and winning work as well as supporting and training team members. As part of the role, you will be involved in writing and reviewing technical reports and proposals and maintaining client relationships. Therefore, an ability and enthusiasm to have direct client contact and generate good client relationships is essential.

The types of work delivered within the Power Systems team currently include:
+ Steady studies such as load flow, fault level and reactive compensation;
+ Dynamic studies such as frequency and voltage stability;
+ Harmonic analysis/ power quality/ filter design;
+ Transient overvoltage and insultation coordination simulation studies (switching/lightning);
+ Control interaction studies;
+ Earthing studies;
+ Protection coordination and Arc Flash studies; and
+ Grid connection support to onshore and offshore developers.
In this role your responsibilities will include:
+ Delivering consulting work related to the various types of power systems studies and analysis, in particular control interaction studies.
+ Providing technical and project management leadership to support the project team in the successful delivery of consulting work.
+ Ensuring technical quality of delivery of power systems projects, reports and proposals.
+ Building and maintaining key client relationships to effectively position power systems services and secure future business.
+ Leading the development and delivery of project proposals and identifying areas where services/skill sets can be integrated through multi-disciplinary working.
+ Lead on excellence in power systems software packages (e.g. DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, IPSA, CDEGs, etc.)

What will you do?
- Preparation of regional forecasts incorporating enhanced use of data and stakeholder inputs
- Analysing future network capabilities, identifying capacity requirements and creating strategic network development plans
- Delivery of NPg’s strategies for the fulfilment of the Whole System Licence condition which requires coordination and collaboration with other Electricity Distributors in order to build a common understanding where their actions could have cross-network impacts
- Identify future network constraints by undertaking network simulations to analyse the capability of our networks to accommodate forecast load, including power flow analysis, fault level calculations, voltage and thermal capability assessments
- Develop new capabilities, models and tools such as the use of Digital Twins, to anticipate constraints on the network. Implement automated analysis methodologies for the efficient application of future system forecasts in network assessments
- Work closely with the design and system flexibility teams to establish the most economic and efficient network investments, comparing traditional and non-wire smart solutions
- Maintain accurate distribution network models including equivalents of the transmission network at Grid Supply Point interfaces for steady state and dynamic analysis at all voltage levels
- Develop and deliver our Whole System Strategies in accordance with Ofgem’s Whole System Licence Condition, establishing strong working relationships with external stakeholders (NGESO, NGET, other Distribution Network Operators, other energy vector organisations)
Key Competencies

**Desirable Experiences**
+ Experience of Matlab and Simulink would be beneficial, as would familiarity with RTDS and OPAL-RT environments.

+ Experience with Power Electronics solutions, including simulations and controls.
**Eligibility Requirements** :
+ It is an office-based role. You must be able to work from the office full time.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and analysis of complex electrical power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution networks.
- Develop and implement strategies for the integration of renewable energy sources (solar, wind) into the grid.
- Perform load flow, short circuit, stability, and protection studies using industry-standard software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, PSCAD).
- Ensure compliance with relevant national and international standards and regulations for power systems.
- Provide technical direction and oversight for power system projects from conception through to commissioning.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering their professional development and ensuring high-quality technical output.
- Collaborate with clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to define project requirements and ensure successful delivery.
- Conduct feasibility studies and develop technical proposals for new projects.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance power system performance and reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to power system operation.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and documentation.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with a specialization in Power Systems.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent professional accreditation is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in power systems engineering, including significant design and project management experience.
- Extensive experience with power system simulation and analysis software (ETAP, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD).
- Strong knowledge of grid codes, protection systems, stability analysis, and renewable energy integration.
- Proven leadership capabilities and experience in managing engineering teams.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in a hybrid work environment, demonstrating self-discipline and effective collaboration.
- Ability to travel occasionally for client meetings and site visits as required.
