Our client, a rapidly expanding food manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Senior Hygiene Manager to oversee and elevate their cleaning and sanitation standards at their facility in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK . This role is pivotal in ensuring the highest levels of food safety, product integrity, and compliance with all regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food hygiene management and a passion for maintaining impeccable operational environments.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive cleaning and sanitation programs across all production areas and associated facilities.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, BRCGS) and regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of hygiene practices, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage and train a team of cleaning operatives, providing clear direction, support, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee the effective use and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety data sheets (SDS) and COSHH regulations.
  • Develop and maintain detailed cleaning schedules, validation records, and risk assessments.
  • Liaise with external auditors, regulatory bodies, and suppliers on hygiene-related matters.
  • Investigate and resolve any hygiene-related non-conformances or customer complaints promptly.
  • Promote a strong hygiene-conscious culture throughout the manufacturing site.
  • Stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in food hygiene and sanitation.
  • Manage the budget for the hygiene department effectively.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a senior hygiene or sanitation management role within the food manufacturing industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety management systems (HACCP, BRCGS, SALSA, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and sanitation techniques.
  • Experience in managing and motivating a cleaning team.
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety regulations, including COSHH.
  • Strong auditing and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and reporting skills.
  • Relevant qualifications in Food Safety or Hygiene (e.g., Level 4 CIEH, RSPH).
  • Experience with allergen control programs.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Understanding of food production environments, machinery safety, and hygiene compliance
  • Experienced in managing and preparing for audits (internal, regulatory, and customer)
