About the Role
We are looking for a capable and driven HSE Manager to take the lead at a high-performing manufacturing site with a reputation for excellence in both food safety and workplace health & safety. This site has been recognised with national awards and holds one of the highest internal compliance audit ratings within the group.
The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of health, safety, and environmental compliance, ensuring site-wide engagement and legal adherence in a complex, fast-paced bakery environment. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams including operations, engineering, quality, and technical, driving safe behaviours and supporting audit readiness, training, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of the site’s HSE strategy
- Implement and monitor controls for dust inhalation risks (flour, spices, allergens)
- Support and lead on internal, external, and customer audits , ensuring readiness and responsiveness
- Conduct and manage incident investigations , root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Coach and influence teams at all levels in health and safety best practices
- Help maintain and improve the site’s industry-recognised audit status and safety certifications
- Support safe implementation of new projects and process changes
About You
This role is ideal for a seasoned HSE professional with a background in food manufacturing or a similar regulated environment. You’ll be confident working in a role that demands both strategic planning and operational execution. A collaborative approach, resilience under pressure, and a hands-on attitude are essential.
Key Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar HSE role within food manufacturing or FMCG
- Qualified to IOSH Managing Safely (essential); NEBOSH General Certificate (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of dust exposure risks , respiratory safety , and allergen control
- Understanding of food production environments, machinery safety, and hygiene compliance
- Experienced in managing and preparing for audits (internal, regulatory, and customer)
- Good Understanding of Food Safety/Level 2 food Safety
- Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels
- Able to operate in a site with frequent change and high expectations
