Key responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of developmentally appropriate, child-centred, play-based provision for young children which provides the nurturing environment needed to promote childrens emotional stability, independence, autonomy and creativity.

Person specification

  • Substantial post qualifying experience of working with children under 5 in an early year setting.

  • Understands and delivers flexible, a range of accessible local and community services for children under 5 and their families.

Leeds City College are recruiting for an enthusiastic Apprentice Teacher to join our Education and Early Years team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with young people and who is eager to develop their teaching skills in a supportive environment.

As an Apprentice Teacher, you will gain on the job experience, whilst also working towards completing your Teaching apprenticeship - on completion you will gain a Level 5 Certificate in Education . The course is provided internally through University Centre Leeds.

You will also receive support from our dedicated Teaching, Learning and Assessment team who share their expertise and guidance on best practice to our teaching colleagues at all levels of their career.

As this is an apprenticeship role, it is fixed term for the length of the apprenticeship - 24 months.

What You Will Do
  • Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans.

  • Responsible for recording student progress and supporting students to achieve targets.
  • Delivery of a minimum of 100 teaching hours over the two-year period.

  • The ideal candidate will have some experience working with young people, ideally aged 16–19, and an understanding of the challenges and barriers they may face, particularly those who may be disengaged or require additional support. As an Apprentice Teacher, you will be developing these skills further, supported by experienced colleagues.
  • A good standard of digital literacy is essential, as you will be using systems to support tracking, communication, and lesson delivery. You will also need strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with good organisational abilities to support both students and staff effectively.
  • You should be confident, or keen to develop confidence, in building positive, supportive relationships with students—motivating and inspiring them to make the most of their placements in early years settings and primary schools. Job Title: Teacher - Education and Early Years (Part Time) Salary: Commencing at £30,527 with progression to £4,349 per annum pro rataClosing Date: 2025-07-27About the Role

Leeds City College are recruiting for a Teacher of Education and Early years to join our team. This role is part time 22.2 hours per week (0.6 FTE). The actual pro rata salary is 8,316 to 0,609 per annum.

We are looking for an inspiring Education and Early Years Teacher who has a passion for teaching and learning along with the ability to engage and motivate students. The ideal candidate will be passionate about students, ensuring that they are provided with an outstanding learning journey whilst at Leeds City College.

The role will work closely with the Education and Early Years team to support students to achieve their qualification. The department has over 25 staff working within it to support approximately 600 students. Achieving their qualification can be life changing to students who wish to go on to further study, into employment or higher education. Our team is committed to developing student belief in their own ability, engaging them in lessons and encouraging progress. The Department of Education and Early Years is based at our Quarry Hill Campus within the Cultural Quarter of Leeds. Quarry Hill Campus boasts specialist childcare training resources, multi-sensory provision, food technology suites, digital technology labs, state-of-the-art hospitality equipment and industry-standard studios and theatres. Quarry Hill Campus is a fantastic place for both study and work, with learners who thrive in an environment where staff promote high challenge and offer generous support. 

What You Will Do
  • Plan, prepare and develop effective schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching and learning resources including the development of online learning resources.
  • Deliver inspiring sessions across the curriculum using a wide range of teaching methods to engage and develop learners.
  • Create effective assessment activities, and provide developmental and timely feedback to motivate and inspire learners to improve. 
  • Work as part of a team to ensure that all quality assurance processes are met.
  • Actively participate in Continual Professional Development and industrial placements.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with students and provide support and encouragement to ensure successful outcomes.
About You
  • Holds a L5 Teaching Qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE), or is willing to achieve within 2 years of being in post.
  • Relevant highest level vocational qualification or degree in teaching subject.
  • Recent teaching delivery in relevant subject areas (PGCE teaching placements/experience would also qualify here) which demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles.
  • Experience of setting appropriate SMART targets to ensure progression of learners.
  • Ability to plan and deliver quality teaching across identified modules.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs.
