We're seeking a recognised Power Systems expert to join our world-class team. You'll provide technical leadership, design complex MW-scale Power Systems, and contribute to our overall strategy across Defence, Marine, Energy, and Industrial applications.
**Job Description**
**Core Responsibilities**
+ Be a recognised technical expert in Power Systems, associated components & equipment.
+ Provide technical ownership to projects to support the development of safe, technically compliant, and cost-effective solutions at holistic Power System level.
+ Undertake all aspects of Power Systems design: - including modelling, analysis, and simulation of Power Systems, using standard industrial design tools such as: Matlab, Simulink, eTAP, DigSilent, PSCAD etc.
+ Develop equipment specifications, FDS's and support overall system level design.
+ Ensuring Power System designs comply with the relevant health & safety, international standards, and class society rules where applicable.
+ Have knowledge of Power Electronic Converter system integration.
**Additional Responsibilities**
+ Support attainment of on-time delivery, cost, and quality targets on projects with utmost focus on safety.
+ Provides project level technical leadership in design, reviews, project level technical resource forecasting and estimated times to complete activities.
+ Provide technical support to the project manager, lead engineer & commissioning teams in managing project deliverables and variations.
+ Provide Power Systems application support & technical guidance to the commercial and site teams.
**Qualifications/Requirements**
+ This role involves work for customers who manage critical infrastructure; based on customer requirements it will be necessary to carry out background checks and suitability assessments for UKSecurity Clearance (SC) as part of the hiring process
+ _https // Working towards or hold a _CEng_ qualification (or strong interest).
+ Minimum of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant subject, or relevant industrial experience.
+ Willing to travel within UK and overseas for short-term working.
**Desired Characteristics**
+ Knowledge of Enhanced Generator Management Systems (EGMS) and/or Power Management Systems (PMS).
+ Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects, adapts to changing circumstances, able to deal with ambiguity making positive use of the opportunities it presents.
+ Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
+ Able to establish good relationships with customers and colleagues.
+ Full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential for site and customer visits.

+ Has applicable, transferrable equipment and systems level knowledge & experience, ideally with domain experience in industrial, marine or naval defence applications.
+ Candidates with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas-power system modelling, Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD)-are encouraged to apply.

The Role: We are looking for a highly capable Power Applications Systems Engineer with a strong background in systems engineering and a focus on power electronics. This position is pivotal in managing requirements, developing system architectures and control strategies, and ensuring robust integration and verification of complex power systems.

As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to the design and delivery of solutions across a range of applications, including marine, aerospace, and defence environments. These include power conversion and distribution systems such as motor drives, inverters, converters, and energy management systems.

This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer passionate about applying practical systems engineering approaches to solve real-world challenges in a growing, high-demand technology environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a technical bridge between multiple engineering disciplines, facilitating cross-functional collaboration.
  • Develop and define system-level operation modes including power-on, fault conditions, diagnostics, and self-tests.
  • Champion the practical application of systems engineering principles across the full product lifecycle.
  • Elicit, analyse, and challenge customer and stakeholder requirements to ensure clarity and completeness.
  • Define system interfaces and lead system-level architectural development.
  • Decompose system requirements into subsystem and component-level requirements.
  • Promote reusability and standardisation across projects to maximise design efficiency.
  • Lead key activities such as interface control, requirements traceability, system safety analysis, and design validation.
  • Participate in system verification and validation, ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Adapt and tailor systems engineering processes to meet specific project needs while maintaining quality and rigour.
  • Conduct and document system safety assessments to support safety-critical applications.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying structured systems engineering approaches throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering deliverables, including requirements documentation, interface definition, configuration control, and safety analysis.
  • Experience working in environments with embedded systems and power electronics.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Jama, or Polarion.
  • Practical experience with both Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and traditional systems engineering methodologies.
  • Exposure to agile delivery approaches including sprints, scrums, and tools such as Jira is beneficial.

Desirable Skills and Competencies:

  • Systems validation and verification experience.
  • Working knowledge of power systems and power electronic components.
  • Strong problem-solving ability, with the initiative to tailor engineering approaches to project constraints.
  • Effective communication skills for interfacing with internal teams and external stakeholders.
