The Role
We're seeking an Authorised Overhead Line Worker to work on the overhead electricity network. As part of a skilled team, you'll take on construction, maintenance, inspection, and fault-finding activities in line with your level of authorisation.
You'll work on the 132kV/33kV overhead network, including construction, refurbishment, fault location, and repairs-during both normal hours and out-of-hours as part of a 24-hour standby rota. You'll also help maintain and inspect overhead plant to ensure ongoing reliability.
What We're Looking For
LE1 grade or equivalent with DNO experience on 132kV/33kV transmission systems (erection & wiring)
City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering
Authorisation to receive safety documents and apply additional/drain earths
Strong understanding of safety systems and risk assessments
Customer-focused with clear communication skills
Willingness to work outdoors in all weathers & antisocial hours
Team player, well-organised, and able to complete work documentation
Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent
Desirable
Wood pole experience (33kV) & trident construction (132kV)
HGV licence
DNO LV & HV overhead authorisations
Experience operating plant
Street works qualification
Computer literacy

Our role
We have a fantastic opportunity for experienced Distibution Overhead Line Workers to join our distribution team in the Walkden and Blackburn areas.
The team are responsible for carrying out the maintenance, repair and refurbishment activities on our distribution woodpole overhead lines up to and including 33kV so that our customers can enjoy a reliable and efficient electricity supply.
In return we will offer you a competitive starting salary, bonus earning potential of up to 10% of your base salary, 26 days holiday plus bank holidays, membership of a defined contribution pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 14% plus a range of flexible benefits.
Knowledge and skills:
• Are qualified to NVQ or City & Guilds level 2 or equivalent;
• Hold a current HV/LV/Limited Authorisation for overhead line work on the SP Electricity North West network or other DNO.
• Have proven experience working at height;
• Are proficient in the use of overhead line equipment, winches, MEWPs, tracked excavators, cranes etc.;
• Are qualified to carry out pole top rescue;
• Have extensive knowledge of the safety requirements for working on and around overhead power lines;
• Have experience of leading and/or being a member of a working party under a safety document;
• Are familiar with working in accordance with Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, processes and procedures;
• Hold a full, valid UK driving licence (essential) with a HGV licence (Highly desirable);
• Are experienced in off road driving;
• Are customer focused with the ability to communicate with both internal and external customers (essential);
• Can demonstrate the ability to complete paperwork relating to work based activities (essential);
• Have a working knowledge of computers and mobile devices (desirable).
