Mech Tech Professionals have a full-time opportunity available for an experienced Proposal Engineer to work with a prestigious firm based in Blaenavon, Pontypool. 

Our client, a well-established engineering firm known for its innovative design, precision engineering, and commitment to excellence in serving sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, and aerospace, is looking for a competent professional to start with them as soon as possible. 

Overview:

As a Proposal Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the pre-sales process - translating client requirements into competitive and compelling technical proposals and costings. Working closely with the sales, engineering, and project management teams, you will be integral to winning new projects and maintaining the client's strong reputation for tailored engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, analyse, and interpret customer specifications including construction drawings, bills of quantities and project scopes
  • li>Compile project cost estimates including material, labour, and production expenses li>Collaborate with the sales, engineering and manufacturing teams to assess project feasibility and compliance with contract specifications.
  • Responsible for the conversion of initial customer enquiries to accurate priced quotations detailing equipment specification
  • li>Dealing with clients and new prospects from a wide range of backgrounds, from multi-national companies to local engineers, OEMs to end-users
  • Liaise with suppliers to obtain competitive quotations for materials / parts and subcontracted services
  • Liaise with colleagues both internally and externally to provide timely and accurate quotations 
  • li>Growing sales through dealings with new prospects and by up-selling and cross-selling other Group company products where appropriate.
  • Continuously refine the proposal process to improve efficiency and response time to clients
  • Ensure equipment is manufactured and supplied in accordance with industry regulations and project specifications as outlined within the proposal.
  • Provide effective feedback to the engineering team based on any product development opportunities, market trends and customer feedback

Further duties to include:

  • ISO 9001 - Provide effective leadership and management in maintaining and continual improvement of the client's quality management system
  • li>Provide effective management support in maintaining and developing the health and safety management system
  • Maintain a safe system of work throughout the company and enforce the policies where necessary

Candidate requirements:

  • A qualification in Mechanical Engineering and/or demonstrable experience of working in a similar role (Degree preferable) 
  • li>Previous experience in a Proposal, Applications, or Sales Engineering role (preferably within capital equipment or materials handling).
  • Demonstrable experience of working in an engineering industry - good understanding of electrical engineering and control engineering
  • li>Sound understanding of materials handling equipment, from both technical and manufacturing aspects ( i.e. screw conveyors, mixers, belt conveying, metering feeders, discharging aids etc) li>Experience and knowledge of working with different materials of construction (mild/carbon/stainless/aluminium/nonferrous) - Desired
  • Knowledge and experience of supplying equipment and solutions to the food, aggregates sectors etc,
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office

The Strategic Bids Team plays a crucial role in positioning the company to win profitable business and drive growth. This team is responsible for managing work-winning activities from the initial capture phase through to the final conversion phase of the WSP Winning Work lifecycle.

As a Proposal Manager you will work closely with our UK Disciplines to develop tailored solutions for our clients. Our people lead the capture and management of bids, produce high-quality written content, and ensure that the appropriate bid governance and review processes are followed. The team collaborates with technical and project leaders, liaises with clients and partners, and manages the development of compelling proposals.
The Strategic Bid Team is integral to WSP's success, ensuring that the company remains competitive and continues to secure projects across the sectors we work in.
**What we are looking for you to demonstrate.**
**Qualifications:**
+ Degree level qualification in a relevant subject or demonstrable relevant experience in a similar role
+ Commitment to achieving APMP Foundation as a minimum.
**Skills:**
+ Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills with an excellent command of the English language.
+ Robust project management skills with a meticulous approach to detail and quality.
+ Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships and rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
+ Good proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
**Experience:**
+ Relevant experience in a similar role in engineering and construction.
+ Previous experience in a bidding role, with a demonstrable record of success in winning bids.
+ Thorough understanding of public sector procurement processes.
+ Experience in producing tenders in the markets that WSP operates in.

+ A proactive approach, using initiative and taking responsibility for own actions.
