Job Title: Headteacher Pupil Referral Unit Location: The Pathways Centre, Newtown
Salary: £60,203 - £84,925 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent, 32.5 hours per week
About the Role:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Headteacher to lead our Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in North Powys. The PRU provides educational provision for pupils aged 5-16 who are permanently excluded or at risk of exclusion from their mainstream school, as well as other pupils for whom the local authority has a statutory responsibility. The core offer includes short-term placements with the aim of successful reintegration into mainstream settings and achieving accreditation to support pupils into the next stage of their education, employment, or training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and management of the PRU.
- Work with the Management Committee to develop and implement policies and strategic direction.
- Lead partnership working with local schools and other service users.
- Ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and pupil achievement.
- Manage and deploy staff effectively, ensuring continuous professional development.
- Oversee pupil wellbeing, behaviour, and attendance.
- Maintain effective links with parents, carers, and other stakeholders.
- Attending Local Authority panels to provide specialist input.
- Responsibility for arranging outreach and training to schools
About You:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Recent, successful experience and knowledge of teaching pupils with a wide range of additional learning needs, including significant social and emotional difficulties.
- Proven track record of successful school leadership.
- Experience in performance management and enhancing the professional development of staff.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
- Commitment to social inclusion and the principles of equal opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- NPQH or equivalent management qualification (or in the process of gaining qualification).
- Relevant in-service training.
