Talent STEM, a UK based scientific, technical and engineering recruitment company is partnered with a leading organisation in the chemical processing sector who are looking to hire a GC Chemist to join their Quality Control team at their facility in Cheshire.
We are seeking a skilled GC Chemist to join our quality control team, specialising in gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography-flame ionisation detection (GC-FID) to ensure product quality in a fast-paced chemical processing environment.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct sampling and analytical testing using GC, GC-MS and GC-FID on incoming materials, in-process streams and finished products to ensure compliance with chemical specifications.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all GC-related testing activities and prepare Certificates of Analysis for product release.

Job Profile
Based in our London laboratories, we are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Laboratory Chemist to support all facets of our aerogel application development. You will work in the Application Development Department , supporting the R&D team on the development, optimization, and enhancement of integrated aerogel products. Your responsibilities will include:
Laboratory Operations
- Prepare reagents and stock solutions
- Manage inventory, stock control, and ordering of lab supplies
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment
Analytical Characterisation
- Develop and operate analytical methods for the characterisation of integrated aerogel products
- Perform thermal, mechanical, and structural analyses using appropriate instrumentation
Data Management & Reporting
- Collect and analyse experimental data using statistical methods
- Document findings and contribute to scientific reporting and presentations
Continuous Improvement & Safety
- Drive improvements in lab practices and experimental workflows

Shift pattern 4 days x 12 hours week 1, 4 nights x 12 hours week 2. 7am to 7pm or 7pm to 7am.
Requirements
- Experience in a retail/food manufacturing environment.
- Experience in quality assurance/quality control/ food safety/ environmental standards/ organics.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Working experience within a similar role and/or a food environment.

This will initially be a 6 month contract with the potential to go permanent for the right candidate and if business needs allow. The main job responsibilities of the candidate will be:
- Collect and process samples ready for testing.
- Perform pH testing and microbiological testing of samples.
- Microbiological testing in strict accordance with the ISO 17025 & 13485/9001 Quality Management Systems and Quality Policies.
- Report non-conforming results to the QC Team Leader or Quality Manager meticulously.
- In-depth knowledge of ISO 17025 testing procedures.
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and fundamental pipetting techniques.
- Experience with contamination checks, pH, conductivity, membrane filtration, and media fertility testing.
The ideal candidate will have as a minimum a BSc in Microbiology or other related field, or equivalent experience. Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory environment is advantageous but the position would also suit a recent graduate with the relevant skills.
