Data Management Specialist About the Role

Are you ready to shape the future of data in financial services? We’re looking for a passionate Data Management Specialist to help drive our enterprise-wide data transformation.


In this exciting role, you’ll be at the heart of delivering our Data Strategy, leading on the rollout of Purview, enhancing our Data Management capabilities, supporting the rollout of Microsoft Fabric. You’ll work within a fast-paced, collaborative environment to embed best-in-class data practices and governance across the business.


This is a hybrid role with some presence required at our Bournemouth office. This role is a Fixed Term Contract for 12 months.


Key Responsibilities

•Spearheading the development of our Data Management roadmap, introducing key capabilities like Metadata Management, Master Data Management, Data Lineage, Business Glossaries, and Data Dictionaries.
•Strengthening our Data Ownership and Stewardship communities and championing our Data Literacy programme.
•Collaborating with the IT communities, Data Office and Data Privacy function to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance across all business lines.
•Leading the implementation of Purview and supporting the migration to Microsoft Fabric, ensuring sensitive data is protected and risks are mitigated.
•Partner with the Head of Data, Data Governance Lead and Data Quality Lead to build a high-impact Data Governance team.
•Define and implement data management strategies aligned with regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, BCBS 239).
•Act as a technical advisor and coach for our Accountable Executives, Data Owners and Stewards, delivering training and guidance.
•Drive MDM initiatives and collaborate with SCV Engineers to deliver a unified customer view.
•Conduct audits, support data migration, and ensure robust data classification and retention practices.

About You
Essential:
•Proven experience in data management/governance preferably within Financial Services.
•Hands-on implementation experience with tools like Purview, Collibra, Informatica, or Alation. 
•Solid SQL skills and familiarity with Azure, Fabric, or other cloud platforms.
•Knowledge of data privacy regulations (UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018) and ETL processes.

Desirable:
•Purview implementation experience.
•Certifications such as DAMA/CDMP.
•Experience in data remediation, migration, and quality improvement projects.
•Ability to work cross-functionally with IT, compliance, and business teams.

Meet the team

We are looking for a Data Management Specialist to join our Demonstration Data Management Group (DDX), based in the UK and supporting UK and Canadian data environments. In this role, you’ll collaborate with Managers and Leaders across Australia, the UK, the US, and Canada, contributing to the development and maintenance of high-quality demonstration data.

You’ll be responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining accurate, complete, and reliable data used to demonstrate LEAP to clients and internal teams. Training will be provided on the DDX Tool.

Working closely with colleagues, you’ll ensure data quality, accessibility, and integrity across all LEAP demonstration datasets, while supporting data governance and analysis activities.

Success in this role requires a hands-on, proactive approach and the ability to collaborate effectively with global stakeholders.

Requirements

What you'll do

  • Proactively liaising with various stakeholders to understand location specific data requirements.
  • Understanding the client’s data requirements and the ability to translate these requirements into functional. specifications for implementation and delivery.
  • Maintaining documentation, including training, delivery, and processes.
  • Preparing and delivering standard and custom training events via web conference tools, web meeting, or standard classroom methods in a one on one or group situation (including the ability to amend and revise programs as necessary, to adapt to changes occurring in the work environment).
  • Ability to investigate and resolve issues raised by departments that relate to LEAP data.
  • Support DDX Developers with issues escalated in the DDX Projects.

About the role

Capital One is seeking a collaborative and driven Data Management leader, who is passionate about providing the organisation with well governed data that is easy to discover, understand and use. As the Head of Data Management, you will lead a team of Data Stewards and Data Management professionals to ensure the organisation is managing its data effectively.

This role reports to the Head of Data.

What you'll do

  • Lead and develop a team of 12, responsible for the Stewardship and Governance of data across Capital One UK, fostering an open and high performing culture

  • Create an ecosystem where all data is discoverable, high quality and easy to use, in support of data driven decision making across the organisation

  • Develop comprehensive data quality frameworks with clear metrics and success criteria

  • Understand and drive adherence to regulatory and Enterprise policy requirements

  • Demonstrate strong data risk awareness, and work with accountable executives and the data protection officer to ensure risks are managed appropriately

  • Develop and own a compelling data management strategy that articulates the benefits of governance across the organisation

  • Influence Senior Leadership and teams across the organisation to ensure data management accountabilities are understood and executed effectively

  • Overseeing the end-to-end data lifecycle, from data ingestion to archiving, ensuring data is managed effectively throughout its lifecycle

  • Develop deep relationships with Enterprise partners to ensure UK specific requirements are understood and considered in broader Enterprise change

  • Promoting and championing data driven decisions across all areas of the organisation

What we're looking for

You are an accomplished leader with a passion for data management and you’ve got experience in implementing data management transformations, and a strong working understanding of policies and data regulation. You'll create an environment of challenge and support for your team, and have a track record of curating a compelling strategy for your team and the business to adopt

Candidates will have the following:

  • Networking and Influence: The role will require collaboration with senior leaders across the UK business. The candidate will possess excellent communication skills, and an ability to adapt and communicate compellingly and with authenticity to any audience. The candidate must be able to build strong relationships internally and across our broader Enterprise.

  • Results Orientation: You will be required to quickly and accurately assess the data management landscape, and work with our risk officers and product teams to develop the roadmap of improvements that will enable long term data management compliance of our data.

  • Strong technical skills: You will have experience of developing technical data management solutions, and have the ability to quickly understand the data ecosystem to support pertinent strategic thinking.

  • People Leadership: You will have a track record of developing a high performing team of technical data management professionals. You are able to craft and communicate your vision for the team, and have experience coaching and mentoring top talent to achieve its potential. The ideal candidate will have the desire to lead and the ability to inspire, empower and develop a diverse group of associates.

Job & Industry Specific Knowledge:

  • Experience in Data Stewardship, Governance and lifecycle management

  • A strong understanding of applicable policies and regulation (e.g. GDPR)

  • Deep understanding of data applications, and the ability to solve complex data issues through effective solutions

  • Experience with database management, data modelling and data quality processes

  • Technical knowledge required: Cloud Data Products, SQL, Python

  • Financial services or technology company experience

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office.  

We have a hybrid working model which gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home. 

We’re big on collaboration and connection, so you’ll be based in our Nottingham office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
