Senior Project Manager
Role: full-time, permanent.
Office: Manchester or Liverpool
Due to considerable growth within our Transport & Infrastructure sector in the North West, we are looking for outstanding individuals to join our team on this exciting journey. Typically working for clients in the Local Authority or Rail space, we require individuals who can consistently deliver excellent results, whilst capitalising on opportunities to expand our business.
Relevant skills and experience:
- Experience of managing projects with complex stakeholder interfaces
- Experience working on Rail or Highways projects
- Experience working in Consultancy delivering for clients, or Client Side
- Experience working on projects for the likes of Network Rail, Combined Authorities, Transport Executives, Local Authorities, National Highways,
- APM Membership and Training (beneficial)
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport quickly with new teams and stakeholders
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities, with a focus on mentoring and motivating diverse groups in fast-paced environments
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a client-focused mindset
- Knowledge of emerging technologies in rail, highways or local government
- Understanding of the local political context.
- Excellent communicator

The Purpose of this Position at Trainline
Lead Trainline's Payments and Rail Fraud Operations Team, ensuring seamless and reliable payment processing across platforms and partners, while building strong relationships with Train Operating Companies on fraud prevention and revenue protection. You'll define and deliver a clear vision and roadmap to strengthen key success metrics in payments, support industry partners in preventing losses, and drive continuous improvement. As a hands-on leader, you'll oversee the day-to-day running and development of the team, empowering them to deliver impact at scale.
As the Operations Manager for this team at Trainline, you will…
- Lead and mentor a team of Rail Fraud and Payment Specialists, fostering a data-driven culture that delivers better outcomes for partners and customers.
- Define and deliver a clear roadmap for tackling rail fraud and abuse, while optimising payment performance.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure strategies align with Trainline's wider business goals.
- Define and monitor key fraud, loss, and recovery metrics across rail and payments (e.g. exemptions, authentication, authorisation, cost of payments).
- Identify trends and anomalies to mitigate risks and uncover opportunities.
- Enhance both internal and external fraud reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and accessibility.
- Increase automation across repetitive tasks to boost team efficiency and scalability.
- Partner with Engineering, Finance, and Product teams to drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Act as a key escalation point for external partners.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership in a clear and impactful way.
- Stay ahead of emerging trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all data security and privacy regulations.

- Experience reviewing dense industry specifications and extracting key datapoints to create actionable insights.
- Strong skills with BI and reporting tools such as Tableau or Power BI to build dashboards and reports.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing fraud and payments team.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with fraud, finance, product, and engineering teams.
- Experience managing multiple stakeholders and ensuring projects are delivered on time.
- A strategic mindset to align rail fraud prevention and payment success with business goals and long-term vision.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, PCI DSS, and PSD2, or other fraud/data compliance standards.
- Experience identifying and mitigating revenue leakage through analytics, and working with partners to track emerging fraud trends.
- Familiarity with payment methods, international networks, and payment processors.
- Experience managing diverse internal and external partners, building strong relationships, and solving problems collaboratively.
- A strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.
- The ability to communicate complex insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Exceptional attention to detail when analysing large datasets to detect fraudulent activity.
- Hands-on experience working with payments and fraud partners, maintaining relationships, and ensuring accountability for results.
