We have an exciting opportunity in the Department of Earth Sciences at Durham University to appoint an Associate Professor (Research and Education) in Sustainable Earth Energy to help strengthen our existing research, teaching and impact that addresses the major energy transition from an Earth Sciences perspective. We seek an outstanding individual to take a leadership role in low carbon geoenergy, energy transition including storage and/or energy transition resource sustainability.

You will have an established, internationally recognised, and active research programme in environmental geosciences, earth system science, sustainability, or related fields, combining field, lab, and/or computational approaches on topics such as, but not limited to, global carbon cycle dynamics, carbon sequestration, environmental sustainability, climate change and mitigation, energy transition or sustainable resource management. You will be expected and supported to conduct cutting-edge research at the highest level, build your own externally funded research group, collaborate widely within and without the department and to explore the full potential of the impact of your research. Your work will contribute to research and impact themes in the Department, the Science Faculty and across the University, including cross-disciplinary and collaborative vehicles such as the Durham Energy Institute and the Institute for Hazard, Risk and Resilience.

• Oversee the full project lifecycle for renewable energy installations, including solar farms and wind turbine projects.
• Develop detailed project plans, budgets, and schedules, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Manage relationships with stakeholders, including investors, contractors, local authorities, and community groups.
• Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and risk analyses for new project opportunities.
• Lead and motivate multi-disciplinary project teams.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Manage procurement processes, including tendering and contract negotiation with suppliers and subcontractors.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Management, or a related field.

• Demonstrated success in managing projects from initiation to close-out.
• Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, grid connections, and relevant legislation.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).

• Strong understanding of environmental regulations, planning laws, and grid connection procedures.
• Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.

• Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of wind turbines and associated infrastructure.

• Demonstrated experience in wind turbine technology, performance analysis, and wind farm design.
• Proficiency with relevant software for wind resource assessment and turbine performance modeling (e.g., WAsP, WindFarmer, Green-Weaver).
