What Is the Opportunity?
We are looking for an Onshore Renewable Energy Underwriter to join our successful Renewable Energy Underwriting team in London. We have big ambitions for the team and you'll be responsible for supporting the management of the book's profitability by underwriting and processing new business, renewals and mid term adjustments and monitoring rate adequacy.
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). - Support the overall profitability, growth and retention of the Line of Business line and consistency of all related underwriting initiatives.
- Ensures that business is written in accordance with the Company's policies, procedures and controls (including audit requirements) at all times, and adheres to Lloyds Underwriting Management Standards ensuring business is only accepted in accordance with:
- individual underwriting authority and, where relevant, with approval under the Lloyds Individual Registration Byelaw.
- the Unit's business plan for the relevant year.
- Support the development of assigned Line of Business and services such as researching and identifying target business, competitor information, industry and economic factors across the business.
- Utilise appropriate systems to accurately enter quotes, risks and endorsements, so as to ensure correct management, statistical and regulatory reporting.
- May gather data and prepare reports to support the professional execution of corporate/business underwriting policies/standards.
- Monitor market factors and world affairs as part of research and development of new opportunities.
- Promote Travelers Line of Business, distribution strategy and philosophy and provide guidance on the Company's underwriting philosophy, procedures and requirements by building strong partnerships with Agents, Brokers and Customers.
- Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching to others as appropriate.

What is a Must Have?
- Previous Property and Casualty insurance experience in either an underwriting, operational or broker capacity.
- Secondary level education or equivalent required.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly created Renewable Energy & Alternative Fuels Industry Practice. The practice has been developed to drive accelerated, profitable growth in the broad range of energy transition technologies by developing industry specialism across lines of business. REAF IP puts the customer and their specific needs as the focus, developing tailored multi-line products and services, whilst reducing the complexity of the customer journey. REAF IP clients include developers and operators of renewable power assets (wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, hydro, wave & tidal), alternative fuel assets (biofuels, hydrogen, nuclear), the power grid, energy storage, alternative fuel distribution and storage, and other transition technologies such as heating and cooling networks, and carbon capture and storage projects.
Role Purpose:
The primary purpose of this role is to underwrite construction and operational risks for REAF occupancies, with a strong focus on new business generation. The successful candidate will have a strong market presence, representing the REAF Industry Practice in broker and client meetings. They will also work closely with other internal stakeholders across all lines of business plus extending to colleagues in claims, risk engineering and global services to provide excellent service to our brokers and clients. They will also work closely with our other underwriting teams to provide multi-line solutions.
Key responsibilities:
- Underwriting - Underwrite new business and renewal accounts according to defined underwriting guidelines and strategies, working closely with risk engineers where appropriate in line with guidance.
- Industry Knowledge - Keep appraised of developments in the industry, including projected investment across different REAF technologies, industry specific challenges and loss activity.
- Financial - Ownership of London & Midlands region REAF Industry Practice financial plan, and responsibility for developing a local business plan with priorities and tactics. Support the REAF Industry Practice leader in preparing financial plans, reforecasts and predictions.
- Training & Mentoring - provide training, mentoring, and act as a role model for more junior underwriters within the team and within LOBs in the region. Take underwriting referrals.
- Compliance and Procedures - Meet company standards in respect of policy documentation, contract certainty, peer review, audit, compliance, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Leadership - Support REAF Industry Practice in establishing and promoting best practice within the team.
- Chubb Representative - Represent and promote Chubb to brokers and clients. Represent the REAF Industry Practice team internally at production, renewal and other internal Chubb meetings.
- Business Development - Proactively maintain relationships with key brokers and clients to ensure profitable and sustainable growth, in conjunction with distribution and other key stakeholders. Develop and grow pipeline of opportunities. Contribute towards strategic growth plans with key brokers.
- Cross-sell - Pro-actively maximise cross-selling opportunities through collaboration with Chubb colleagues across lines of business. Have a good understanding of Chubb's risk appetite across core lines of business and a high-level understanding across non-core lines.
Qualifications
- Good working knowledge of the REAF insurance market, including competitor and broker analysis.

Our Natural Resources team spans Clean Energy (wind, solar, hydrogen, hydroelectric and Nuclear), Decarbonisation, Mining and Oil & Gas. We are currently recruiting for a Senior Planner to join our team, supporting a clean energy project. Typical activities will include developing work breakdown structures and robust baselines, establishing progress monitoring and reporting frameworks, producing S-curves and manpower histograms, assessment of critical path, schedule risk analysis and 'what-if scenarios', producing project control reports and providing performance analysis and recommendations for our clients.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience working in a project controls environment on large capex projects within the energy sector is required. This must include experience in onshore piping and process facilities as well as gas to power and/or gas compression projects.
- Have worked on all phases of major capex projects from concept to execute and have demonstrated experience in developing an EPC schedule on a major project.
- Track record of providing analysis and advice as project moves from FEED towards FID and then into execution, alongside experience in working with Integrated Master Schedules
- UK Construction experience desirable
- Be able to work independently
- Skilled communicator working across disciples and with internal and external stakeholders
Previous experience of the following tools is required: Oracle Primavera, MS Project, Excel,
Applicants will also require excellent written and verbal communication skills, be rigorous in following documented processes and governance and be able to demonstrate the ability to innovate in creative ways to meet the challenges of the changing project environment.
