The Investment bank are implementing a new Securities Trading System and they require a Market Risk Specialist to define system specifications, design and build risk reports, establish a robust limit structure, conduct comprehensive testing, and document procedures, acting as the leading authority with minimal reliance on in-house input. As a key member of a cross-functional project team under overall project management, the Market Risk Expert will drive the project through design, build, testing, and go-live phases, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements. The role reports directly to the Head of Risk and the COO, who is leading the project.
Responsibilities include:
- Independently define detailed system requirements and specifications for the proprietary trading system, collaborating with the trader, IT, and other stakeholders with limited in-house expertise.
- Enhance and update the banks existing market risk governance structures, including escalation committees, model governance protocols, and clear ownership for limit monitoring, breaches, and remediation.
- Develop and implement risk reports, models, and tools to monitor traded and non-trade market risk exposures, including but not limited to; Value-at-Risk (VaR), sensitivity analysis, and portfolio stress tests, with minimal guidance from the organization.
- Design and execute backtesting models to validate VaR and other model outputs, ensuring regulatory compliance with Basel backtesting standards and regulatory requirements
- Ensure risk reporting supports regulatory capital computation and attribution, aligned with Basel II and Basel III FRTB standards
- Design and implement limit frameworks with dynamic calibration logic to ensure limits remain risk-sensitive and adaptive to portfolio composition, market volatility, and liquidity conditions, including monitoring tools that automatically adjust or flag limits as market conditions evolve
- Independently develop and validate severe but plausible market risk scenarios, aligned with regulatory expectations under CBO Circular BM-1200, and integrate these into capital and risk reporting
- Develop capital allocation models compliant with Basel II and Central Bank regulations for market risk capital and Basel III FRTB standards, including standardised and internal models approaches as appropriate.
- Lead the design and integration of market risk components into the ICAAP framework, ensuring alignment of risk quantification, capital planning, stress testing, and governance with regulatory expectations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in market risk management within proprietary trading or investment banking environments, with a focus on bonds and equities.
- Essential : Clear, proven track record of successfully delivering similar trading system implementation projects (e.g., risk management system upgrades or new system deployments) at a previous organization, with demonstrable outcomes, achieved independently as the primary expert.
- Extensive experience in autonomously designing risk frameworks, writing risk policies, devising testing protocols, and conducting stress tests for prop trading.
- Familiarity with trading systems (e.g., Bloomberg, Murex, Calypso, or similar) and their risk management modules.
- Strong understanding of risk metrics (VaR, Greeks, stress testing) and financial instruments (bonds, equities)
- Expertise in system testing methodologies and tools, with the ability to design tests from scratch.

Role synopsis
This role sits within the Gas and Power Trading International (GPTI) Commodity Risk team, within BP’s supply and trading business and is a key control position within the Commodity Risk and T&S Finance organization. This role is accountable for providing deep business understanding on risk measurement and control through development and maintenance of robust measurement models, analysis of market conditions and trading positions, and interpretation and improvement of risk and control policies and procedures. This role holds the primary interface into the trading team for trading activity and requires balancing independence with a business enabling partnership. This position requires substantial knowledge of the activities within Commodity Risk Analytics to meet the team’s core accountability of delivering independent analysis and reporting.
Key accountabilities;
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Commodity Risk, GPTI, you will:
- Own and drive modernization of MVaR and Stress processes
- Improve and develop market risk measurement models and methodologies
- Daily MVaR, Exposures, and Stress Tests: Provide explanation of why these numbers have changed, and interact with Front-Office in understanding the trading strategies underpinning the risk that is being measured
- Deliver timely, rigorous, and accurate reporting and analytics that provide insight into risks of T&S’s business activities to support business decision making and strengthen the control environment.
- Monthly calculation on NPVaR and quarterly calculation of NOI: Execution of model, explanation of drivers, and interacting with colleagues to understand the trading strategies relating to the risk.
- Provide market risk input required as part of the process through which new activities and projects considered by the Front Office are being evaluated and approved by GPTI
- Provide constructive challenge to trading activity to ensure it is compliant and aligned to intended trading strategy.
- Work daily with Finance Analytics.
- Interpret T&S’s MTM and market risk policies and ensuring their applications in GPTI.
Essential education
A University degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative subject area is a requirement. Advanced qualification in finance, economics, mathematics, science, engineering, etc. is highly desirable. In addition, a professional qualification in financial analysis (i.e. CFA), risk management (i.e. FRM, ERP, or PRM), business or operations research is an advantage.
Essential experience and job requirements- Strong analytical skills including the ability to understand and communicate sophisticated transactions with embedded optionality as well as assessing the market risk impact of those transactions on an existing portfolio
- Strong numeracy and advanced Excel or Python skills, ability to develop valuation and risk models for wide range of derivatives
- Understand the basic principles of market risk measurement and control as well as familiarity of the alternative methods available to calculate value-at-risk, define appropriate risk factors, account for non- linear instruments,etc.;
- Be familiar with the practical difficulties/limitations of MVaR and other risk measures (volumetric limits, Greeks, etc) either through working in the middle office or a front office role;
- Understands the need for a robust risk management framework in a trading environment. Will know how risk limits should be set and controlled in order to ensure that the organization only takes the risks it is comfortable with;
- Possess a good understanding of the fundamentals of energy trading, including extensive familiarity with derivatives and other trading instruments.

Desirable criteria & qualifications

Our Credit Team is part of a global organisation located in London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo. The London Credit team is responsible for the EMEA region and we work closely with other regions, and MUFG Group entities and subsidiaries within the region, to ensure global consistency in credit management.

**Main Purpose of the Role**
To support the Group Head to direct the continuous development of CIB Credit for EMEAu2019s credit risk framework, risk appetite portfolio monitoring and early warning frameworks in line with shareholders, client and regulatory expectations.
To support the Group Head to lead, manage, guide and develop a group of credit professionals responsible for Middle Market & Growth Tech credit, and of certain allocated sectors.
To exercise delegated credit approval authority and/or make recommendations to senior management on transaction specific files as well as continuously and actively monitoring the portfolio in line with internal policies and applicable regulatory guidelines.

Central Rating and Underwriting Team (CRU) sits within the Credit and Fraud Risk division and forms the institutional credit risk management function within American Express. The CRU team plays the critical role of assessing and managing the risk of institutional exposures across all business units within American Express, and in all regions globally. Credit exposures are primarily generated through corporate and small business card programs, working capital facilities, via merchant service relationships where non-delivery risk exists, and among the securities portfolio held for firm-wide liquidity.
In addition to determining the internal credit rating which drives the probability of default of each exposure, CRU also calculates the loss given default of these obligors while underwriting card programs. **How will you make an impact in this role?**
Credit Risk Analysts in CRU are responsible for rating and underwriting credit exposures in their assigned region, industry, and business line. The Analysts' fundamental credit assessment incorporates a thorough review of business, financial, industry and country risk coupled with support from internal and external rating model outputs. Analysts will also need to show an understanding of the need for credit extension, profitability of the relationship, risk mitigation and program structures.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Fluency in English and French mandatory.
+ Bachelor's degree/equivalent in Finance or a related subject.
+ Experience in fundamental credit analysis and / or underwriting of commercial enterprises (1-2 years)
