This amazing business and AUV submersible robot has massive potential across a range of different industry sectors. The Mechanical Design Engineer (Robotics)  will be responsible for the design, develop, and validate advanced mechanical sub-systems for their next generation unmanned underwater platforms. This role will play a pivotal part in enhancing the capability, performance, and durability of submersible robotic systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conceptualise and develop mechanical solutions to meet milestone deliverables.
  • Produce robust technical drawings to BS 888  standards for both in-house assembly and external manufacture.
  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes to meet performance and durability goals.
  • Review and check manufacturing drawings and mechanical designs.
  • Manage personal tasks and priorities to ensure timely delivery of project objectives.
  • Integrate a wide array of sensors (e.g., sonar, cameras, and other sensitive electronics) and actuators using established engineering practices.
  • Lead testing and validation efforts, including hardware testing and live sea trials, ensuring performance in demanding marine environments.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team—including systems, software, and electrical engineers—to ensure cohesive system integration.
  • Maintain clear documentation and manage document control using defined revision control processes.
  • Chair and participate in engineering design reviews.
  • Contribute to and help improve internal engineering processes and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design.
  • Strong expertise in SolidWorks for modelling, assembly, analysis, and drafting.
  • Ability to work in field conditions, including support for field testing and sea deployments.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in maritime, utonomous vehicle or unmanned vehicle  defence, or subsea robotics industries.
  • Knowledge of complex mechanisms, PCB integration, and thermal management in constrained environments.
  • Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including confidence in presenting and chairing design reviews.
  • Familiarity with modern manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Hands-on experience with assembly of complex mechanical systems including motors, linkages, flexible and rigid structures, and PCB integration.
  • Understanding of ergonomics and anthropometrics.

+ Follow the departments standard design practices, engineering reviews and guidelines.
+ Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline.
Coordinate and interface the HVDC Control System with Balance of Plant equipment and SCADA systems:
+ Define the main IO Lists of the control system.
+ Analyse signal interfaces and ensure compatibility with the control system.
Define Control Panel requirements and produce detailed design documentation for the control system using standard design blocks under the guidance of lead engineers. This may include
+ Panel Electrical Schematics (using Engineering Base tool).
+ Wire / Cable Schedules.
+ Routine Test specification.
+ General Assembly drawings.
+ Bill of Materials.
**Required Qualifications**
+ Degree in Electronics/Electrical engineering or related field.
+ Strong background in configuring Substation Bay Controllers/Merging Units/ IEC61850 IED's.
+ Experience in Control Panel design (preferably as used in substation/power plant environments).
+ An advanced background in Distributed Control Systems / Substation Automation.
+ Experience in working with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, e-base, Microsoft Visio.
+ Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as Profibus and Ethernet based protocols.
+ Understanding of fibre optic cabling systems.
+ Understanding of LV cable sizing and distribution.
+ Control & Protection Relay logics Design techniques.
+ Experienced in developing electrical designs for industrial control systems.

Our client, a global leader in industrial automation solutions, is seeking a highly skilled Lead Field Service Engineer to join their remote technical support team. This position is fully remote, requiring extensive travel to client sites across the UK for the installation, maintenance, and repair of advanced automation systems. You will be the primary technical point of contact for clients, providing expert support and ensuring the optimal performance of critical machinery. As a lead engineer, you will also mentor junior team members and contribute to technical knowledge sharing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installing, commissioning, and maintaining complex automation systems and machinery at client facilities.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware and software issues for automated equipment.
  • Performing preventative maintenance and repair work to minimize downtime.
  • Providing on-site technical support and training to client personnel.
  • Developing and implementing solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Writing detailed service reports and documenting all work performed.
  • Collaborating with engineering and R&D teams to provide feedback on product performance and improvements.
  • Leading and mentoring junior field service engineers, offering guidance and technical expertise.
  • Ensuring client satisfaction through timely and effective service delivery.
  • Adhering to all safety regulations and company protocols while on-site.
  • Managing spare parts inventory and ensuring necessary tools are available for assignments.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of experience in field service engineering, specifically with industrial automation systems (e.g., PLCs, robotics, HMI), is essential. Proven expertise in troubleshooting and repairing complex electromechanical systems is required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with the ability to work independently and under pressure, are crucial. Excellent communication and customer-facing skills are necessary to build trust and provide exceptional support. Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings is a must. Experience with (Specific automation technologies, e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, FANUC) is highly advantageous. This is a remote-based role that requires significant travel (up to 70-80%) to various client locations, demanding flexibility and a strong ability to manage one's own schedule and workload effectively.
