We are an extremely well established Bedfordshire-based manufacturer selling our machines to household blue chip names across the globe and serving a wide range of industries.
Following a period of growth and rebranding, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Controls and Automation Engineer to join our business.
Based at our recently refurbished site on the outskirts of Bedford (within easy reach of the A6 and A421 and free on-site parking) you will work on the successful design and development of new products.
In addition, occasionally (approximately 4 to 5 times a year) you will travel both in the UK and Overseas to customer sites to resolve any automation issues regarding commissioning, installation and trouble shooting.

This role plays a critical part in maintaining high levels of equipment availability and performance by carrying out proactive and reactive engineering tasks.
As an Automation Engineer your duties will be:
- Maintain automation and material handling systems to reduce downtime and optimise throughput
- Respond to system breakdowns, performing fault diagnosis and resolution in a timely manner
- Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities to the required standard and timescale
- Identify and escalate engineering improvements or opportunities to reduce reactive workload
- Contribute to the transition from reactive to proactive maintenance culture
- Work closely with Shift Managers, Engineers, and third-party contractors to maintain service levels
- Promote and follow safe working practices, reporting any hazards, unsafe behaviours, or near misses

Controls & Automation Engineer required with an in-depth knowledge of PLC and/or SCADA by a mid-sized business growing at 30% per year. They are in an exciting position to help companies meet their Net Zero and other carbon / emission related goals.
The Automation Engineer will design and commission new C&I systems for heat recovery projects. These projects are delivered on a turnkey basis to clients looking to reduce carbon emissions through recovering the heat lost in their operations.
This is a varied and challenging role that involves many aspects from design & development, testing, commissioning through to handover to the client on site.
The Automation Engineer role:
* Designing and developing new control systems.
* Writing complex programmes from scratch on any manufacturer’s software.
* Create library of programs used in various heat recovery product lines and improve and standardise company tools.
* Work closely with sales team and/or customers to develop SOP.
* Configure and program the Human Machine Interface (HMI), controllers and network (Modbus, BACnet, etc.) according to the established standards.
* Create control and network drawings and prepare necessary documentation for the projects and clients.
* Responsible for testing, commissioning and troubleshooting control programs and the SOP either remotely or onsite as required.
* Participate in the training of test and supporting after sales technicians with technical documents, presentations etc.
