An exciting opportunity to be part of a team, implementing and developing the Safety Management System in the aviation sector.
As aviation regulation requires an SMS system that is Present, Suitable, Operating and Effective for the scope of our business, this is a unique opportunity in an advancing area of growth.
The role consists of the development, maintenance, and administration of the organisation's Safety Management System to ensure product safety.
The role will require you to promote a safety culture through SMS, the analysis of hazards and proactive risk assessments. This will be achieved by the delivery of relevant information across the business around risk management and the reduction of risk to 'As Low As Reasonably Practicable'.
The role will be critical to demonstrating to the regulator our commitment to the changes that are being implemented around regulation and oversight of SMS. This is an exciting opportunity to be engaged at the inception of a significant change in the way regulation is executed and is likely to grow as the new regulatory process matures
**Job Description**
**Essential Responsibilities**
+ Facilitate hazard analysis and risk management to reduce the level of risk to 'As Low As Reasonably Practicable'.
+ Review and organise SMS training and promotion, including content to support the business in recurrent training.
+ Support in customer and regulatory audits
+ External safety reporting to the customers and national aviation authorities.
+ Facilitate the safety action groups and the distribution of safety information.
+ Facilitate the independent review of investigations and just culture.
+ Supporting the development, administration, and maintenance of the organisation's safety management system, including review of regulatory requirements.
+ Management of Airworthiness Directives process.
+ Support in external safety audits.
**Qualifications/Requirements**
+ Awareness of SMS requirements.
+ Computer literacy is essential to the position.
+ Working knowledge of the principles of regulation with emphasis on EASA Part 145.
+ Experience in using problem-solving root cause analysis tools.
+ Effective communication skills, both written and spoken and the ability to interact at all levels - including senior business leadership, regulatory representatives, and customer / operator representatives.

Boeing Defence UK is offering an opportunity to join their dynamic Safety Management System (SMS) team dedicated to ensuring the safety of our Products and Services. The successful candidate will become part of a large, multidisciplinary SMS team comprising approximately 20 experienced professionals in the deployment and sustainment of the SMS within the Boeing Defence UK Chinook Programme.
The successful candidate will lead the SMS within the UK Chinook Programme and will be responsible for ensuring an effective SMS is maintained in this crucial UK MoD programme.
**The role has the following key responsibilities:**
Lead the Safety Management Systems for the Boeing UK Chinook Programme.
+ Lead the Safety Risk Management strategy for the Programme to effectively derive hazards and risks.
+ Lead the facilitation of Hazard Identification working groups to create, review and mature BowTies.
+ Sustain a Positive Safety Culture
Lead the management of all Chinook safety occurrence reports and investigations ensuring the quality and completeness of all reports.
+ Perform Safety Investigations in response to the triaging of safety reports.
+ Interface with both internal and external key stakeholders in the processing and managing safety reports and issues.
+ Lead Safety Promotion activities in support of the Programme. Manage the SMS meetings schedule for the Programme ensuring effective audit trail and management of actions and deadlines. Creation and maintenance of SMS documentation relating to the Chinook Programme SMS. Establish and maintain SMS interface with the MoD Air Safety Teams and key Suppliers to the Programme. Delivery of SMS training as required to support compliance with regulation and BDUK procedures.
Travel within the UK is expected and some overseas travel may be required.
**Essential competencies, experience and qualities:**
+ Formal Safety Management Systems training and experience and significant experience in aviation maintenance and/ or engineering.
+ Training in Safety Risk Management and experience in utilising BowTie methodology.
+ Experience and understanding of military aviation regulations and their application.
+ Qualified Safety Investigator with experience in conducting and leading safety investigations over several years.
+ A sound understanding of Just Culture principles and their application.
+ Experience in managing large volumes of safety reports using military or civil reporting tools and processes.
+ Experience in working across multiple functions and levels to build relationships and understanding to build trust and a positive safety culture.
+ The candidate should possess strong communication and organisational skills and demonstrate the ability to use common IT and project management concepts/tools.
+ The role will have significant UK MoD customers, supplier and wider Boeing interfaces and, therefore, a person who possesses good interpersonal skills balanced with diplomacy and resolve is essential.
**Desirable competencies:**
+ Qualified and experienced Human Factors trainer.
+ Experience using the MoD's ASIMS tool for in-service occurrence monitoring and trending or a civil equivalent system.
