The role:
We are looking to recruit a well-organised and self-motivated Consultant to support growing client demands in the Data Strategy, Data Governance and Data Quality Domains. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of advising clients on options for suitable approaches to Data Governance to underpin client business goals and outcomes. Candidates may be actively consulting in Data Governance or be looking to take their next steps from the implementation of Data Management solutions.
And a demonstrated track record of:
- Have at least 5+ years’ of experience in data consulting in a Data Management role or similar, with hands-on experience of Data Governance and Privacy frameworks, such as DAMA.
- Have a strong understanding of regulatory requirements for Data Governance e.g. GDPR, DPA, PECR, etc.
- Proven experience of delivering practical approaches to Data Governance e.g. specifying appropriate ownership models, adapting/defining roles, introducing/improving policies, and processes.
- Knowledge and experience of Data Governance suites from vendors such as Informatica, Collibra, Alation, IBM, Profisee, Semarchy & Atacama covering:
- Master Data Management
- Data Quality
- Data Integration
- Data Cataloguing Preference will also be given to candidates who have knowledge and experience of Transformation and Change Management principles.
- Preference will also be given to candidates with knowledge and experience of Cloud-based Data Governance Solutions.
Responsibilities include:
As you develop in the role, you will become a trusted advisor, supporting clients to turn their Business Objectives into actionable Data Strategies, which may involve the design, implementation and adoption of Data Governance and Quality frameworks, maturity assessments and health checks, through to supporting a team of Data Consultants to efficiently and effectively install and configure the latest Data Management solutions.
As a consultant, you will also be experienced in dealing with the ‘people’ factor, and the wide variety of national and corporate cultures that we meet in our daily business. You will need to adapt and draw on a breadth of communication and analytical skills to appeal to your audience, be they businesspeople looking for business value, or technical experts looking for technical discipline and rigor. You will be able to employ your analytical mindset to get to the root of the client’s Data challenges and offer practical solutions as well as opportunities to expand the client brief.

So…. What is this role exactly?
This is an exciting opportunity for a Data Governance professional to join Your Housing Group's well established, collaborative Data and Business Intelligence Team as Data Governance and Quality Lead.
As YHG's Data Governance and Quality Lead you will play a crucial role in leading other data professionals and influencing a wide range of business stakeholders to scale-out and embed our Data Governance Framework and Data Management capabilities, ensuring data integrity, accuracy and readiness for AI. At your disposal will be the latest technologies (ie Collibra) and you’ll be able to draw on the collective knowledge and expertise of a talented Data and BI team.
We are looking for an individual with a passion for data management, ready to help position YHG as a leading example of Data Management excellence in the social housing sector.
What will my working week look like?
You will be homebased, living within the North West, within a reasonable travelling distance of our Head Office in Warrington, to attend meetings and training courses when needed. Realistically, you will be required to visit our Head Office approximately 2-4 times a month.
What will I be responsible for doing?
Working with the the Data & Business Intelligence team, and the wider YHG Data Community you will lead in the development and implementation of best practices for data governance and quality across all YHG business areas.
You’ll work closely with the community of Data Owners and Stewards across the business, leading Data Governance Working Groups and be a key member of Data Governance Committee.
You’ll lead data governance initiatives and collaborative issue remediation, including data quality assurance, meta-data management, and data lifecycle processes, building trust in the data that underpins business decisions.
One of the great things about this role is the opportunity to work closely with all areas of the organisation, building on the foundations already in place and really help to shape best practice.
Other responsibilities will include:
- Building impactful Data Management capabilities using appropriate technologies (Business Glossaries, Data Catalogue, Data Lineage)
- Lead Data management service delivery aligned to budgets, quality standards and governance frameworks
- Own and deliver Data management solutions and roadmaps that support business and data strategies.
- Lead in the establishment of a Group data management capability covering data governance, cataloguing and data quality, ensuring compliance
- Day to day Management of a small team of Data Analysts
And what would make me stand out from the crowd?
- Knowledge of best practice principles (e.g. DAMA DMBOK) and their practical implementation across the full data lifecycle
- Analytical mindset with a framework-driven approach to building robust business and data quality rules in collaboration with SMEs
- Deep understanding of data principles (types, classification, integrity, consistency)
- Proven ability to design and deliver data governance and management frameworks, with a strong grasp of their core components and strategic relevance
- Advanced proficiency in T-SQL for data exploration and transformation, and confidence with visualisation platforms (Excel, Power BI, Tableau, PowerPoint)

We need to ensure our Data is managed to ensure quality, drive insights, and empower clear decision making across the 1856 Syndicate. Resulting in an improved end-user experience, highly trusted data and strong regulatory compliance.
IQUW Group has a hybrid working model that offers flexibility while maintaining opportunities for collaboration and connection with colleagues in person.Our hybrid working model will consist of 3 days per week in the office and 2 days working remotely. The role
IQUW requires a Data Governance Lead to embed the data governance framework, manage all organization-wide data governance activities, and have the responsibility for improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets.
We have grown rapidly and need to ensure we are able to equally mature and scale our data governance discipline and data quality practices. This is to ensure we can meet both regulatory requirements and operational process to ensure we make our data a trusted and governed asset for both Regulated and Operational processes.
The position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards and practices, both at the department and Business and Functional areas level, to achieve the required level of consistency, quality and protection to meet overall business and regulated needs.
The Data Governance Lead serves as a point of escalation for governance, data quality and protection issues and will work closely with Business and Functional area leadership to improve the quality and value of core data assets, respond to regulatory protection requirements as well as support the strategic requirements of the department.
The Data Governance Lead will also help to establish a data quality framework effectively manages our key data sets and define a control-based approach. Helping to define the process to establish critical data flows that can manage the lifecycle of data and ensure appropriate controls, ownership and monitoring is in place in line with key data quality dimensions.
Key responsibilities
Working closely with the Chief Data Officer and as part of the data and analytics centre of excellence (COE) to consistently maintain and promote the Digital & Data strategy and roadmap, ensuring that is fit for purpose and changes are clearly communicated to stakeholders.
Establish and govern an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap including strategic priorities for development of information-based capabilities
Line manage a Data Quality Analyst and support objectives setting , task management and development as part of key duties
Roll out an enterprise-wide data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality and the protection of sensitive data through modifications to organisation behaviour policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture
Serve as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated and well understood and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning
Develop & maintain inventory of the enterprise data flows, critical data elements, data dictionaries, owners, responsibilities including authoritative systems
Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection standards and adoption requirements across the enterprise
Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements
Leading projects comprising resources from the Business and Functional areas and IT business and operations functions, to achieve their objectives; resolve issues escalated from Business and Functional areas data governance representatives
In conjunction with the IT, provide progress reports to Board management and oversee periodic updates to the Department Data Governance Roadmap
Coordinate external data sources to eliminate redundancy and streamline the expense related to those services
Identify new business opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace / represent data as a strategic business asset at the Senior Management table

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Experience as working in Data Governance / Quality domain and Governance Manager or Lead role.
Experience of working in a Lloyds market Syndicate environment. Thus, possess high level knowledge of key departments i.e. Underwriting, Claims, Reinsurance, Actuarial and Finance functions and familiar with the typical data flows within an insurance business in the data governance / quality context for Regulatory and operational functions.
Understanding of the types of systems Policy Admin Systems, Claims Systems, Pricing models, exposure solutions and RI systems
Knowledge and experience with Purview and Power BI
Experience of developing Data Quality reporting process and supporting MI , knowledge of the key types of metrics and reporting KPI’s needed to build out measurement and reporting
Hands-on experience with building required templates, roles, responsibilities, and processes that form a data governance toolkit/framework.
Strong understanding of data management principles and data flow process and practices. Knowledge of (DAMA DMBOK) would be desirable
Knowledge of Insurance Data Governance (Solvency II, Lloyds Min Standards, SOX’s)
Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection
Knowledge of data related government regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues
Demonstrated consulting skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change and performance measurement system design
