Job Description
About Us:
Supporting Education Group (SEG) is a purpose-driven, private equity-backed organisation on a mission to make a meaningful difference in the world of education. Through our School Business Services (SBS) brand, we deliver expert finance and operations support that helps schools and academies run efficiently - so they can focus on what matters most: delivering excellent outcomes for children.
With over £10m in revenue and more than 100 dedicated professionals, SBS is a cornerstone of our growing professional services practice.
We are looking for a commercially minded business leader with experience in school finance - but this is not a Finance director role - your focus will be on meeting the challenges of schools and multi-academy trusts to grow our highly regarded SBS business.
As the senior leader for this business unit, you'll combine strategic vision with hands-on leadership to drive commercial growth, operational excellence, and service innovation. Reporting to the Managing Director for Professional Services, you will shape and deliver our strategy, inspire your teams, and ensure exceptional client experiences that have both educational and commercial impact.
Lead the strategic direction, growth, and profitability of the SBS business unit.
Develop innovative, tech-enabled service propositions that meet evolving customer needs.
Build and nurture a high-performing 100+ person team with an empowering leadership style.
Foster a strong customer-first culture and ensure high levels of client retention and satisfaction.
Collaborate with sales, marketing, and product teams to deliver successful go-to-market strategies.
Oversee operational models that improve efficiency, support investment in people, and enable scaling.
Act as a sector thought leader and ambassador for SBS within the education community.
A senior leader with proven success in growing and scaling commercial operations.
Strong experience in leading high-performing teams and delivering operational excellence.
Commercial acumen and experience managing significant P&L responsibility.
A customer-focused, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to drive innovation and transformation.
Essential: experience in the education sector, with knowledge of Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs) and schools.
Skilled in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration.
Executive presence, strong communication skills, and the ability to inspire confidence at all levels.
Schools and MAT finance experience.
Experience in delivering professional services, ideally subscription-based.
A tech-savvy approach to service innovation and operational improvement.
Why Join Us?
At SEG, you'll be part of a values-led, ambitious organisation making a tangible difference to schools and education providers across the UK. You'll work alongside talented, purpose-driven colleagues in a collaborative environment where innovation and growth are celebrated.
We offer:
- 28 days holiday and get an extra day for each year you stay with us, up to max 33 days PLUS bank holidays
- Private medical scheme, once you've passed probation
- From day 1, free life insurance covering up to x4 your salary
- We'll both add money into your pension pot after 3 months
- Choose what flexible benefits you want after you've passed probation - this could be buying extra holiday, dental, topping up your healthcare plan, bikes, gym membership, electric cars and give as you earn
- Learning and development opportunities
- Performance-based bonus and an opportunity to participate in an EBT share scheme
- Volunteer days - 3 paid volunteer days a year, with 2 dedicated to Education
Ready to Make an Impact?
This is a rare opportunity to lead and grow a respected, values-driven brand in the education sector - with the autonomy to shape its future and the backing of a successful, ambitious group. You'll work alongside a talented leadership team, drive meaningful change for schools, and make a tangible impact on outcomes for children.
If you want to lead a high-profile business unit where your strategic thinking, commercial drive, and sector expertise will shape the next chapter of success, we'd love to hear from you.
