Underwriting position within the General Liability London market operation. The role will have both a personal and collective responsibility for supporting the future growth and profitability of the General Liability portfolio by underwriting business in line with our appetite and partnering with wholesale and retail brokers to build and maintain relationships, and assist them with their client's insurance needs.
Job Responsibilities:
+ Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet planned underwriting results, through proactive account review, analysis of underwriting trends, use of supporting tools and raters, and improvement plans to maintain profitability.
+ Negotiate account participation, pricing and terms and conditions with brokers.
+ Underwrite in line with General Liability risk agreed strategy - e.g. Underwriting Authorities, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles.
+ Support development and execution of the General Liability global underwriting and marketing strategies.
+ Work closely with the GL team to drive development opportunities, whilst maintaining a balanced portfolio
+ Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business through both market and one-on-one meetings with our Insureds / potential Insured's.
+ Develop and maintain strong relationships with key Brokers. This may include overseas travel on behalf of the team.
+ To keep abreast of development of claims within the GL book and to liaise with the claims team as necessary to support appropriate settlement of claims.
+ To contribute, as required, to the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of Underwriting results as required.
+ Followed assigned underwriting authority and adequately document account files.
+ This role will be based in London, UK and you are required to have the necessary right to work details prior to application.
Experience:
+ Relevant experience within the UK Liability and / or International GL marketplace
+ Broad knowledge of all classes of business written within the HIG Group
+ Willingness to continue to develop knowledge of Insurance and related issues through formal and informal learning
+ Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external business partners
+ Team player with ability to work on a stand-alone basis
+ Energetic, self-starter with solid time and desk management skills, able to prioritise and organise workload

Our Corporate team use their specialist expertise to offer bespoke insurance solutions to our largest and most complex clients in the UK and Ireland. We are looking for an Underwriter to join our team!
In this interesting and varied role, you will be involved from the early stages of client engagement through close interaction and collaboration with our colleagues in Risk Control, Claim, and other critical stakeholders both in the UK and the US. You'll be responsible for managing new and renewal business opportunities and developing prospects, leading the technical underwriting of these risks and helping to deliver Travelers' bespoke customer proposition. + Utilise all available underwriting tools, such as rating and exposure assessments.
+ Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within distribution channels in the London Market and international broker networks. § Support the Head of International Environmental & Life Sciences in expanding Life Sciences operations within group offices and Lloyd's operations.
+ Assist with travel and marketing initiatives to promote The Hartford brand for both new and existing business prospects. § Meet group standards for risk analysis, risk selection, technical pricing, and renewal rate monitoring.
+ Ensure compliance with The Hartford's best practices and applicable Lloyd's or local regulations. § Report to Management on a monthly basis regarding the progress of the Life Sciences portfolio against business plans and budgets.
+ Monitor claim developments within the Life Sciences portfolio and coordinate with the claims team as required to facilitate appropriate claim settlements. Contribute to the monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of underwriting results as needed.
Qualifications & Capabilities:
+ Build knowledge and experience to demonstrate an understanding of the risks and exposures relevant to the Life Science sector, including drug manufacturing/API, clinical trials, medical devices/products, and contract research organisations.
+ Contribute to underwriting activities related to the renewal portfolio of business.
+ Participate in the development and implementation of the Life Sciences marketing strategy.

Experience:
+ Strong demonstrable underwriting or broking experience
+ Ability to demonstrate technical capability, experience and understanding of the Life Science sector in a Liability/E&O sense, or technical experience & understanding of similar heavy products for Liability/E&O exposures
+ Strong market facing/broker development skills, including writing new business
+ Interpersonal skills and ability to operate independently in a small team
