Job Description
About The Role
Are you early in your career and looking for a role that offers flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to make a real impact in water resources management? Are you keen to reduce commuting time and costs by working from home while developing your skills with the support of an experienced consultancy team?
We’re looking for a Consultant – Water Resources Management to join our growing Water Science division. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with 1–2 years of experience in water resources or environmental consultancy who is ready to take the next step in their career.
In this role, you’ll support a wide range of projects including drought and water resources planning, environmental assessments (e.g. WFD, HRA), and hydrological data analysis. You’ll also contribute to technical reports, tenders, and project coordination.
As this is a remote-first position, we’re seeking a motivated self-starter—someone who enjoys managing their own time, staying organised, and proactively seeking guidance and development when needed. You’ll receive full support from our friendly, multidisciplinary team, but this role suits individuals who are independent and able to thrive without daily in-office supervision. Some travel for site visits or client meetings may be required.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- A relevant BSc or MSc degree
- Ideally 1–2 years’ professional experience in an aquatic environmental consultancy role
- Data handling and analysis skills
- Strong report writing and communication skills
- A logical, problem-solving approach to technical environmental assessments
- A full UK driving licence
Desirable (but not essential):
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIWEM)
- First Aid certification and/or CSCS card
- Experience with regulatory frameworks such as WFD, HRA, SEA, EAR, or water resilience planning
At APEM, we value independence, flexibility, and innovation. Our remote-first working approach means you can shape your day to work where and when you are at your best, while always being supported by our approachable, expert team. Our values—Integrity, Quality, People, Forward Thinking, Positivity, and Fairness—guide everything we do.
If you’re ready to build your career in water resources management while enjoying the benefits of remote, flexible working, we’d love to hear from you.
Next steps
We are focused on creating a diverse and inclusive team. If you can’t tick every box on our job description, then we are still keen to hear from you and are open to supporting your development. That may be working part time or supporting you to gain experience in a specific area – we are a growing company and are able to adapt roles to reflect individual skills.
If you think you have what it takes to join our fast-growing business, then please apply immediately on our website. All we need some basic information and your CV, we will review all applications quickly and will respond to all applications.
About Us
The APEM Group is a global environmental consultancy, we work with a range of clients including large corporations and governments to help them understand and solve a wide variety of environmental projects in the UK and globally.
