Senior Director, Technical Product Management – Fabric
The Mission
At Smarsh, our mission is to empower our product and engineering teams to build, ship, and run world-class software with velocity and confidence. We're seeking a visionary Senior Director of Product Management to lead the charge for the Smarsh Fabric , the intelligent platform engineering ecosystem that forms the backbone of our entire product portfolio. The Fabric is a foundational, standalone capability that underpins all product innovation at Smarsh, and this is a role for a technical leader who has lived the engineering experience and is driven to solve its most complex challenges.
This is more than a role; it's an opportunity to shape the future of developer innovation at Smarsh. You will own the strategy for a sophisticated internal platform that includes our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) , core Application & AI Services , and automated Governance & Controls . Your leadership will directly impact our ability to innovate faster, operate more efficiently, and deliver exceptional value to our customers.
If you are a leader who is passionate about building products for developers, obsessed with creating elegant platform experiences, and excited by the potential of AI to transform the engineering lifecycle, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do
- Champion the Vision: Define, evangelize, and drive the strategic vision and multi-year roadmap for the Smarsh Fabric as the company's core operating system for innovation, aligning platform capabilities with executive-level business goals and product strategy.
- Forge a Leadership Dyad: Form a tight, strategic partnership with the VP of Engineering for Fabric. Together, you will co-own the vision, strategy, and execution for the entire Fabric organization, ensuring the product roadmap and engineering capabilities are developed in lockstep.
- Enable AI-Powered Development: Spearhead the integration of AI/ML capabilities and GenAI tooling into the developer platform, creating an intelligent "co-pilot" experience that accelerates innovation and reduces cognitive load for our engineering teams.
- Lead a World-Class Product Team: Hire, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of technical product managers, fostering a culture of ownership, data-driven decision-making, and deep customer empathy (for our internal developers).
- Deliver a World-Class Developer Experience: Move beyond a simple "paved road." You will treat the platform as a product, relentlessly focused on delivering a world-class developer experience with a measurable return on investment. This means instrumenting, analyzing, and optimizing engineering tooling to demonstrably reduce cognitive load and accelerate innovation.
- Drive Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as the evangelist for the Fabric, influencing product leaders across Smarsh to adopt platform services and contribute to the overall vision. You will be the primary advocate for the platform's value proposition to your peers.
- Be the Voice of the Developer: Live and breathe the developer experience, using product discovery, UX research, and direct feedback to eliminate friction and build tools that engineers love to use.
How We Measure Success
- Your success will be measured by the direct impact you have on our engineering organization and the business:
- Developer Velocity: A measurable increase in the speed and ease with which teams can deliver value to customers.
- Platform Stability & Quality: A reduction in engineering toil and lower Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) for all applications running on the Fabric.
- Cost Efficiency: A lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for our cloud infrastructure, achieved through intelligent automation and FinOps tooling.
- Security & Compliance: A best-in-class, "secure by default" posture that simplifies compliance for our product teams.
- Innovation & AI Adoption: The successful rollout and adoption of new AI-driven tools and platform capabilities that unlock new product opportunities.
Who You Are
- A Proven Platform Leader: You have 10+ years of experience in product management, with a significant portion spent leading platform, infrastructure, or developer-focused products. You have at least 7+ years of experience building and managing strong, effective teams.
- An Engineer's Product Leader: Your technical credibility is non-negotiable. You have a deep, hands-on command of the modern cloud-native landscape (Kubernetes, AWS, CI/CD, Observability) and a background in software engineering or architecture. You don't just talk the talk; you can hold your own in complex architectural debates, gain the respect of top-tier engineers, and ensure the product vision is technically sound and achievable.
- A Strategic Business Thinker: You are as comfortable presenting a multi-year financial model to the CFO as you are debating API design with your engineering counterparts. You connect platform investments to clear business outcomes and can articulate the value of a foundational platform as a core business asset, not just a cost center.
- A Strategic Product Practitioner: You are a student of modern product management and can skillfully balance strategy-centric and customer-centric approaches. You excel at leading empowered teams through continuous product discovery and delivery, ensuring that what we build is not only valuable and usable for our developers but also feasible and aligned with Smarsh's strategic goals. You have a track record of making high-stakes decisions using a blend of quantitative data and qualitative insights.
- An Exceptional Communicator: You can articulate a complex technical vision to a wide range of audiences, from the C-suite to individual contributors, inspiring action and alignment along the way.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience building and scaling large-scale SaaS platforms.
- Significant hands-on experience with AWS services across compute, storage, networking, and observability.
- Deep expertise in one or more of the following domains: Big Data, Enterprise Security, FinOps, or applied AI/ML in an engineering context.
- Proven experience managing terabyte-scale SQL and NoSQL databases in production environments.
- Experience building and contributing to an open-source community or creating content to attract technical talent.
- Familiarity with product discovery tools (e.g., JIRA Product Discovery, Dovetail) and product-led growth methodologies.
