We're looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Land Management Officer to lead sustainable land management across the breath-taking Cambrian Mountains , focusing on some of our most valued National Nature Reserves, including Cors Caron, Coed Rheidol and Rhos Llawr Cwrt . You'll take responsibility for ecological planning, conservation delivery and legal compliance across a range of protected sites. On the Welsh Government Woodland Estate, you'll work closely with the Forest Operations team , offering expert advice on managing sensitive habitats, historic features and key species. Your work will help ensure that nature is at the heart of sustainable land use decisions.


From carrying out tree safety surveys along public highways to advising on conservation constraints for forestry work, you'll combine strategic thinking with practical action. You'll oversee contractors, collaborate with landowners and local communities, and play a central role in shaping how our landscapes are managed for biodiversity, resilience and public benefit.

Working entirely remotely, you will engage with clients across various regions, assessing their needs and developing tailored solutions that promote ecological health and economic viability. Your insights will guide sustainable practices and policy recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive remote assessments of forest ecosystems and land management practices.
  • Develop strategic management plans for sustainable forestry, biodiversity conservation, and landscape restoration.
  • Advise clients on regulatory compliance, environmental impact assessments, and best practices in land management.
  • Utilize GIS and remote sensing technologies for data analysis, mapping, and monitoring of forest resources.
  • Prepare detailed reports, proposals, and technical documentation for diverse clients, including government agencies, private landowners, and conservation organizations.
  • Provide expert consultation on issues related to silviculture, pest and disease management, wildfire risk, and climate change adaptation in forestry.
  • Facilitate remote workshops and training sessions for stakeholders on land management techniques.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research, technologies, and policy developments in forestry and environmental science.
  • Collaborate effectively with a geographically dispersed team of experts and clients via virtual communication channels.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative approaches to forest and land management challenges.

Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Forestry, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in forestry and/or land management, with a strong emphasis on ecological principles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and remote sensing applications.
  • Proven ability to conduct complex analyses and develop evidence-based management strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Familiarity with national and international forestry standards and conservation frameworks.
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical software.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to sustainable practices.
  • Access to reliable high-speed internet and a suitable home office environment.
