Our clinicians are a crucial part of the most joined-up model in SEND. Across all of our specialist schools and children’s homes, we provide unrivalled levels of clinical support, both in terms of our expertise and breadth of provision. Our young people present with a complexity of need including developmental trauma, neuro-developmental conditions and special educational needs.
As part of a multi-disciplinary clinical team you will be supporting educational and residential colleagues to provide therapeutic living and learning environments and, based on clinical assessment and formulation, offer individualised interventions and engagement to our young people. You’ll also be assessing our young people’s mental health and recommend appropriate interventions in a personalised care plan. Building rapport is key, by doing this you’ll be able to deliver effective counselling and feedback on progress.

Be a qualified Speech and Language Therapist registered with the HCPC

About the Role
The Specialist Speech and Language Therapist will work as part of a multi/interdisciplinary team, providing essential speech and language therapy input to pupils at Forest Bridge School. This role involves assessment, training, and collaboration with education staff to meet the needs of our pupils.
Responsibilities
- To work as part of a multi/interdisciplinary team providing speech and language therapy input within the school to pupils with autism and co-occurring conditions.
- Provide assessment for current and prospective pupils, as needed.
- To contribute to the training of professional leads, staff and the wider community.
- All written documents as needed at a professional standard.
- To ensure the service is provided in close collaboration with education staff and other professionals to meet the needs of the pupils.
- To work in support of the vision and ethos of the school, in line with teaching and ABA practices.
- To demonstrate a strong commitment to the school’s values, embedding a values-based approach in your practice to foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment for all pupils.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assessing (formally and informally) and providing diagnoses and specialist advice on a range of communication disorders, to other professionals, families and the wider community.
- Maintaining and using specialist clinical skills and knowledge in a range of communication disorders, to enable the supported management of a specialist caseload of children and young people.
- Using a wide range of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) techniques, to enable pupils to access the curriculum planned and delivered by all staff supporting the pupils’ learning.
- To maintain an up to date knowledge of new techniques and development within the field of AAC and Speech and Language development and regularly train staff and parents in the usage of these tools.
- Planning appropriate therapeutic interventions, making judgements about type and timing of treatment in collaboration with lead professionals and school leaders.
- Delivering group and individual therapy as required across the school.
- Produce reports and therapy programmes to relevant stakeholders.
- Providing families with advice and training to support the management of intervention and ensure generalisation of targets.
- Evaluating treatment outcomes using a range of therapeutic frameworks.
- Supporting learners to transition across settings and providing discharge reports to other settings.
Professional Responsibilities
- To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
- To be responsible for managing own time appropriately and prioritise tasks accordingly in order to carry out clinically related administrative duties, relevant to the caseload and operation of the school.
- To manage a complex caseload whilst recognising own professional boundaries and access supervision, advice and support when necessary.
- To work closely with relevant parties about individual pupils and practically demonstrate therapeutic approaches where appropriate.
- To work collaboratively with colleagues to support service delivery in line with the school’s policy and ethos.
- To care for and maintain equipment ensuring standards of infection control and safety are maintained.
- To provide relevant in-service training to school staff and parents, via presentations, talks and career evenings on topics related to the role of the speech and language therapist, communication and therapy. To reflect on and evaluate training provided.
- To collect clinical data and write reports.
- To be responsible for maintaining up to date and accurate case notes in line with professional standards and school policies.
- To be aware of legislation and local policies, e.g. SEND code of practice guidance from HCPC and RCSLT.
- Collaborate with all stakeholders to provide an inclusive environment for all.
Safeguarding
- Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils, and help to safeguard pupils’ wellbeing by following the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and our school’s child protection policy.
- Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Qualifications
- Relevant degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
- HCPC registration.
Required Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Experience in working with children with autism and communication disorders.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) techniques.
- Experience in providing training to staff and parents.
Pay range and compensation package
Salary: Band 6 (Fringe London)
Hours: Full-time or Part-time (with a minimum of 3 full days); 8:30am- 4:30pm
