Academics is acting as an agency in relation to this sports coach vacancy.
This is a specialist provision for children with complex needs. Many of the learners have autism, alongside a range of additional needs that can impact their ability to engage, flourish, or even attend education. Since opening in 2021 with just three pupils, the provision has grown rapidly and now supports 20 students, with over 40 families on the waiting list. Alongside the main setting, the Roots programme also provides 1:1 alternative provision for children who are currently out of education, offering personalised support and education and training packages.
We are seeking a dedicated Sports Coach to join our expanding Roots team in Hemel Hempstead . This role is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about sports, inclusion, and making a real difference in the lives of children who may have been out of education or are in the early stages of reintegration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver tailored 1:1 and small group sports sessions to children with diverse and complex needs, including autism, ADHD, and trauma backgrounds.
- Support the wider sports curriculum for full-time students across the provision.
- Monitor student progress, set achievable goals, and provide regular updates to families and staff.
- Travel between multiple venues in Hemel Hempstead and surrounding areas to deliver engaging sessions.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment with safeguarding at the forefront.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other staff to ensure holistic support for every child.
Person Specification:
- Experience delivering sports coaching, ideally with children with SEND, autism, ADHD, or trauma backgrounds.
- A recognised coaching or sports qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to adapt coaching approaches to meet a wide range of needs.
- A full driving licence and willingness to travel.

- Be responsible for establishing, developing and sustaining long-lasting relationships with local schools in our focus boroughs
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality sports coaching is delivered to a range of different audiences in Key Stages 1-5
- To develop close relationships with local grassroots sports clubs in order to support the transition between school & grassroots sports participation
- Ensure the delivery of high quality extra-curricular sports coaching is offered to schools where we can most sustainably meet the needs of the school community
- Be responsible for the accurate and timely updating of the relevant Foundation monitoring & evaluation systems for all schools-based coaching to ensure the impact of our work is captured
