Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engagement strategies across UK and EU energy forums, infrastructure partners, and institutions.
  • Act as a senior advisor internally, supporting advocacy and long-term collaboration.
  • Manage relationships with customers, terminal operators, and shippers to support strategic planning and resilience.
  • Influence key stakeholders across Europe to support cross-border energy trade and strategic initiatives.
  • Track and contribute to UK and EU policy developments, providing strategic input and representing the company in relevant discussions.
  • Ensure the company has visibility and influence in European energy forums and transition planning.
  • Act as a bridge between external stakeholders and internal teams, integrating insights into technical, commercial, and regulatory workstreams.
  • Lead the creation of commercial materials and strategic briefings aligned with project and policy goals.
  • Oversee stakeholder engagement activities related to the gas transition, ensuring feedback is captured and used to inform decisions.
  • Provide informal leadership across the team, mentoring colleagues and coordinating cross-functional efforts.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, strategic partnerships, or policy advocacy, ideally within the energy, infrastructure, or industrial sectors, or in relation to EU policy developments.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and build trust with senior external stakeholders, including government, regulators, and international partners.
  • Strong strategic thinking and communication skills, with the ability to translate external insights into actionable internal plans.
  • Proven track record of delivering results in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, particularly in regulated or policy-driven contexts.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver high-quality outputs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and contributing to long-term strategic planning.
  • Understanding of the UK and European energy transition landscape, including gas market dynamics, net zero policies, and UK or European Union frameworks.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and stakeholder tracking tools (desirable but not essential).

At Stantec, we're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Stakeholder Engagement Assistant (or Coordinator, depending on final titling preference) to join our collaborative Stakeholder Engagement & Consultation Team in the North of England (Warrington, Manchester, Leeds or Newcastle).This is a great opportunity for someone at the start of their career who is passionate about communication, working with communities, and supporting the delivery of major infrastructure projects.
As part of our growing Stakeholder Engagement and Consultation Team, you will assist in the planning and delivery of engagement activities for projects across sectors, including water, energy, transport and environmental infrastructure.
You'll work alongside experienced colleagues and gain hands-on experience supporting projects such as:
+ The M3 Junction 9 Improvement Scheme.
+ The Hampshire Water Transfer and Water Recycling Project.
Your day-to-day role will include:
+ Supporting the coordination and delivery of stakeholder engagement and consultation activities.
+ Helping to prepare communication materials such as leaflets, newsletters, presentations, and digital content.
+ Assisting with the organisation of public events - both in-person and online - including logistics and on-the-day support.
+ Taking notes and helping to summarise feedback from events and stakeholder meetings.
+ Conducting background research to understand local communities and key stakeholders.
+ Supporting stakeholder databases and contact logs to ensure accurate records.
**About You**
We're looking for someone with a proactive attitude and an interest in infrastructure, communications, or public engagement. You don't need to have years of experience - just a willingness to learn, collaborate, and grow with us.
Ideally, you'll bring:
+ A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. communications, planning, geography, politics, environmental studies, or similar).
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
+ A collaborative mindset and confidence working with different teams.
+ A desire to develop your skills in stakeholder engagement and communications.
Desirable (but not essential):
+ Some experience in a related internship, volunteering, university society, or entry-level role.
+ Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Office, social media platforms, or basic design software.
+ Knowledge or interest in infrastructure, planning or local government.
