We have an exciting opportunity for a Statement Taker to join Devon and Cornwall Police at their police station in Camborne.

This is a temporary role for around 3 months working a shift pattern which will include some weekend working. Hybrid working.

PLEASE NOTE DUE TO POLICE VETTING YOU MUST HAVE RESIDED WITHIN THE UK CONTINUOUSLY FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS AT THE TIME OF APPLICATIO N. .

The purpose of the Statement Taker is to prepare, conduct and record remote interviews of victims and witnesses. This must be delivered to an equivalent standard of the Professionalisation Investigation Programme (PIP) and in accordance with the law, PACE Code C, Force policy and with reference to the 'Practical Guide to Interviewing 2004'.

The Statement Taker will have the ability to identify and maximise all of the available evidence from conversation with an individual and ask pertinent questions to obtain as much information as possible.

In particular to:

  • Conduct remote (not face to face) interviews of victims and witnesses.
  • Provide care for victims and witnesses by identifying any Risk, Harm and Vulnerability issues assessing an appropriate response or the need for onward referral (e.g. VNA)
  • Adapt the communication style used to the needs of the individual, and confirm understanding of any element stated by the witness.
  • Record the statements of remote interviews and ensure section 9 PACE statements are legible, meet the required evidential and quality standards and comply with the CPS guidelines.
  • Complete allocated enquiries to PIP standard and within required timescales.
  • Be accountable for decisions regarding all aspects of preparing, conducting and recording interviews and producing statements; referring to Force policies but also with discretion for individual circumstances.

In addition there is a function intrinsic to this role. An employer's duty of care and current legislation allows the Force to establish if a potential applicant could carry this out, either with or without reasonable adjustments. This function is:

  • Working with Disturbing Evidence of Disturbing Circumstances

To assist in ensuring applicants would be able to undertake this function of the role, a medical assessment via a questionnaire will be undertaken and may subsequently require a consultation with the Occupational Health Support Unit.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Experience in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Good inter-personal skills with an ability to build rapport with a diverse range of individuals

  • Proven communication skills with a good standard of English language, literacy and comprehension

Join Our Client's Team as a Statement Taker in Camborne.

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference in public services? Our client is seeking dedicated individuals to join their team as Statement Takers on a temporary basis. This role offers a competitive hourly rate ranging from 15.22 to 21.99 (Dependant on Shift Worked) - Please note this will be a shift pattern of 1 4 wk shift pattern , with full-time hours available. About the Role:

As a Statement Taker, you will play a crucial role in preparing, conducting, and recording remote interviews with victims and witnesses. Your work will ensure that all interviews meet the standards set by the Professionalisation Investigation Programme (PIP) and comply with legal guidelines, including PACE Code C.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct remote interviews with victims and witnesses, ensuring a compassionate and supportive environment.
  • Identify and assess any risk, harm, or vulnerability issues, providing appropriate responses or referrals as needed.
  • Adapt your communication style to meet the individual needs of each participant, confirming understanding throughout the process.
  • Record statements accurately, ensuring they meet evidential and quality standards in line with CPS guidelines.
  • Complete allocated inquiries to PIP standards within specified timeframes.
  • Take personal accountability for the preparation and execution of interviews, applying discretion based on individual circumstances.

What We Are Looking For:

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build rapport with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Exceptional listening skills, with the ability to ask pertinent questions and extract relevant information.
  • Good command of the English language, with strong literacy and comprehension skills.
  • Familiarity with the Code of practise for Victims of Crime.
  • Accurate keyboard skills at a speed of 50 WPM to meet targets.
  • Ability to work independently and on your own initiative.
  • You must be able to pass police vetting so the criteria is that you have resided within the UK continuously for at least 3 years.
