**Position Purpose:**
The Transfer Station Plant Operative assists in the day to day operation of the transfer station. The Operative will be responsible for the receipt and dispatch of licensed clinical waste in line with company and legislative requirements, whilst maintaining the highest standards of Health & Safety throughout.
**Key Job Activities:**
To receive, manage and transfer out licensed clinical waste within the facility and ensure all paperwork is completed in line with company procedure and legislation. Ensure waste is properly segregated on arrival and dispatch to and from the facility.
Loose waste handling / manual handling trailer loading / Sharps trailer loading. To load and unload waste into bins and containers. Use and operate the waste tracking systems that are used by the company.
To assist in the training of new employees to the department.
Ensure bins are clean and serviceable by using the bin washer and carry out maintenance of clinical waste bins.
To work alongside outlined Standard Operational Procedures.
General housekeeping of the facility.
To observe Health & Safety Regulations, other relevant legislation and safe working practices.
**Education:**
Required Education: High School or equivalent.
**Experience (EMEAA):**
Preferred Experience: Basic knowledge.
Required: Drivers Licence, Forklift Truck licence.
Occasional use of power tools.
Good level of physical fitness.
Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail.
Good communicator.
Ability to work without supervision.
Ability to manage time and complete multi tasks in line with timescales.

Eligibility
We welcome applications from those currently serving within a UK Fire Authority at the following levels :
- Substantive and competent Whole Time Duty System Watch Commanders, holding a recognised Incident Command Level 1 qualification (for entry to the SM Talent Pool)
- Substantive and competent Retained Duty System Watch Commanders (internal applicants only), holding a recognised Incident Command Level 1 qualification (for entry to the SM Talent Pool)
- Competent Whole Time Duty System or Retained Watch Commanders that are serving in a temporary WM role, or recently completed a temporary WM role (internal applicants only) , holding a recognised Incident Command Level 1 qualification, a valid pass at WM gateway and IFE L3D5 and L3D6 papers (for entry to the SM Talent Pool)
NOTE: Internal applicants must be deemed ready for progression at their last appraisal.
Candidates who have a live disciplinary sanction for either Attendance or Conduct at the time of the application closing date will not normally be eligible to engage in the selection process. Candidates pending the outcome of a disciplinary matter will not normally be eligible to enter the talent pool until the outcome is known. The Selection Process
All potential candidates have the opportunity to join an engagement forum, offering a chance to engage with Chief Fire Officer and Principal Officer team and discuss what we have to offer. We also offer support sessions via Teams to find out more about the process. The selection process will include a written case study, a generic Station Commander interview with presentation and an ICL2 practical assessment. (Those holding a valid BFRS ICL2 assessment will be exempt from this element).
Candidates successful at shortlist will be invited to attend a selection process for entry to our Station Commander talent pool. Applicants will be offered the option to indicate on their application form whether they would like to be considered for an accelerated pathway, (This may, subject to their performance at the gateway, enable them to be offered additional development opportunities on appointment to a Station Manager role, and the option to undertake the assessments leading to entry to the next level up talent pool within 12 months).
Successful candidates will enter a talent pool, eligible for consideration for Station Manager posts as they arise. The pool will remain live for 12 months. (Internal applicants undertaking development would be required to undertake a professional discussion to remain in the talent pool. External applicants would be required to reapply.)
Subject to outcome and any appointment, you will be required to serve at any location in the Service, and to gain satisfactory pre-employment clearances, including an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance and pass a Service Medical and Fitness Test before appointment will be offered.
Successful applicants will be required to undertake a probationary period of 6 months and those successful on promotion will also be required to satisfactorily complete the Station Manager Development Programme.
