Job Purpose
We are a leading steel stockholder supplying structural steel, plate, and associated products to the construction and engineering sectors across Northern Ireland. We are currently seeking a Steel Handler to join our warehouse team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient handling, movement, and storage of steel products within our yard and warehouse operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and move steel using overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.
- Order Picking: Accurately select and prepare steel sections, plates, and profiles according to customer orders and cutting lists.
- Storage & Organisation: Ensure stock is stored safely and logically within designated areas, maintaining yard and warehouse tidiness.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of PPE, load-securement, and manual handling best practices.
- Equipment Checks: Carry out pre-use checks and report defects or maintenance issues on cranes, forklifts, and lifting gear.
- Documentation: Complete delivery notes, stock movement forms, and system entries accurately.
- Teamwork: Work closely with drivers, machine operators, and office staff to ensure smooth workflow and timely dispatch of orders.
- Quality Control: Inspect materials for damage, correct identification, and conformance to order specifications.
- Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with company standards
Knowledge, skills and experience required
Essential Criteria
Previous experience handling steel or heavy materials in an industrial, warehouse, or fabrication environment.
Competent in operating overhead cranes and/or counterbalance forklifts (certification desirable).
- Good awareness of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret basic job sheets.
- Physically fit and capable of manual work in a busy yard environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious.
Desirable Criteria
Experience in a steel stockholding or fabrication company.
Slinger/Signaller training or experience working with lifting accessories.

This is a hands-on detailing role working on complex structural steel and temporary works packages-where what you draw directly informs what gets fabricated and built.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, fabricators, and site teams to produce high-quality, accurate drawings that reflect real-world constraints and construction methods. It's a role suited to a detailer who understands both the software and the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce detailed fabrication and erection drawings using Tekla Structures
- Model steelwork assemblies, connections, and components accurately to suit fabrication and site conditions
- Generate GA drawings, material lists, bolt lists, and CNC files
- Coordinate with engineers, fabricators, and site teams to resolve design/detailing queries
- Apply a buildability-focused approach to all outputs
- Ensure models and drawings meet relevant codes, client standards, and internal QA procedures
What You'll Bring:
- Proven experience as a steelwork detailer (ideally 3+ years)
