We have an opportunity for a Structural Analysis Engineer to join the team at our Silverstone facility. In this role you will be performing calculations, finite element analysis and optimizations of car structures at the assembly and component level. We aspire to be the absolute best in every aspect of our team.   • Support your allocated design group by performing analyses and optimizations to achieve weight efficient robust designs

  • Scrutinize load cases for design and analysis purposes

Role Overview

The successful candidate will predominantly work on integrating ZeroAvia’s propulsion system onto airframe primary structures including understanding and mitigating against the impact the modifications have on the original aircraft type certificate. The candidate may also be involved in the structural verification of the powertrain and power generation system itself along with rig design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural analysis activities for the design and Integration of propulsion and fuel systems into the airframe.
  • Perform detailed stress analysis using both numerical (FEA) and classical hand calculation methods to assess strength, stiffness, and durability.
  • Conduct and correlate structural simulations with physical test data to validate models and ensure design compliance.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing technical input and ensuring structural integrity is maintained throughout the design process.
  • Interface with the regulatory authority for demonstration of compliance discussions for the topic of interest
  • Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure structural requirements are clearly understood and met.
  • Act as a key liaison with the testing department for structural and equipment qualification testing.
  • Review and approve subcontractor deliverables related to critical structural components and assemblies.
  • Support the development and refinement of structural analysis tools, methods, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the full product development lifecycle, from concept through certification and production.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers within the stress and structures team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Aerospace, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering), with a commensurate level of technical experience as a Stress Engineer
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant industrial experience
  • Demonstrated depth of experience in the aerospace industry.
  • Expert in analytical sizing using hand calculations and industry-standard methods: Bruhn, Niu, ESDU
  • High level of expertise in FE model creation, including both GFEM and DFEM, and expertise in one or more types of analysis: linear-static, dynamic, or non-linear.
  • Proficient in one or more FEA packages: Simcenter 3D/NX Nastran, MSC Patran/Nastran, HyperMesh/OptiStruct.
  • Solid understanding of metallurgy, material models, and failure modes
  • Experience of NX including the ability to check CAD models and drawing
  • Experience in tool and methodology development.
  • Working knowledge of at least one of the following regulations and rules: FAA, EASA, CAA
  • Commensurate depth of related Aerospace industry experience
  • Fatigue and damage tolerance experience
  • Experience in structural testing
  • Familiarity with aircraft load generation and computation
  • Experience in vibration and shock testing, including knowledge of equipment qualification standards
  • Experience in composite material sizing
  • Programming experience in Python or MATLAB for developing tools to support structural analysis

Engineering designs our next-generation hydrogen electric engines. Working across Hydrogen, Propulsion and Integration divisions, they solve technical problems and help decarbonize aviation by finding solutions for electric propulsion, hydrogen storage, fuel cell technology, power distribution, thermal management and more.

Role

Integrating a novel propulsion system within existing aircraft designs is an important opportunity in decarbonising aviation. To meet this challenge, ZeroAvia require an ambitious and capable Mechanical Structural Analysis Engineer to help deliver effective solutions for modifying and re-certifying aircraft.

The successful candidate will predominantly work on integrating ZeroAvia’s propulsion system onto airframe primary structures including understanding and mitigating against the impact the modifications have on the original aircraft type certificate. The candidate may also be involved in the structural verification of the powertrain and power generation system itself along with rig design.

Job responsibilities will include the design and analysis of aircraft mounting structures and structural assessment of primary aircraft structures to accommodate novel powertrain systems. The work will involve material selection, proposing solutions to achieve stress, stiffness, durability and damage tolerance requirements and weight and cost optimization. Strong experience with FEA is essential, as well as hand calculations. Experience in aircraft preliminary design and working on CS-23 certified or regional aircraft programs a benefit.

Must have a strong mechanical engineering experience and ability to work independently. Experience with complex components and assemblies. Experience with Aircraft and Automotive drivetrain systems a plus. Knowledge of FAA, EASA, CAA regulatory structures, rules, and regulations a plus.

Requirements

Integrating a novel propulsion system within existing aircraft designs is an important opportunity in decarbonising aviation. To meet this challenge, ZeroAvia require an ambitious and capable Mechanical Structural Analysis Engineer to help deliver effective solutions for modifying and re-certifying aircraft.   

Job responsibilities will involve assessing and resolving the structural integrity of critical aircraft equipment including ZeroAvia’s bespoke fuel cell balance-of-plant solutions. The candidate may also be involved in structural analysis of aircraft structures along with rig design and therefore a curious mindset is essential for this role. 

Strong experience with FEA, as well as hand calculations is required. Experience in design and qualification of equipment is essential. Experience in designing equipment for mobility environments (aerospace, automotive, marine) is considered a benefit. 

Must have a strong mechanical engineering experience and ability to work independently. Experience with complex components and assemblies. Experience with Aircraft and Automotive drivetrain systems a plus. Knowledge of FAA, EASA, CAA regulatory structures, rules, and regulations a plus. 

Main responsibilities 

  • Perform structural simulations and verification of powertrain equipment including test correlation. 
  • Apply knowledge of materials (metallics and composites), finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes to best meet product requirements. 
  • Participate in design reviews. 
  • Work closely with engineers, manufacturing and testing personnel to ensure that all aspects of the design are understood. 
  • Serve as liaison with testing department for equipment qualification. 
  • Provide expertise to review subcontractor design deliverables of critical aircraft equipment. 

Experience and qualifications 

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in an appropriate discipline and commensurate depth of related technical experience. 

Essential Requirements 

  • High level of expertise in FE model creation and FE analysis.  
  • Expert in one or more types of analyses: linear-static analysis, dynamic analysis, non-linear analysis. 
  • Experience in ‘hand calculation’ analytical sizing analysis using industry standard methods. 
  • Vibration and shock testing experience 
  • Understanding of metallurgy, material models and failure modes. 
  • Verification experience of computational/analytical models. 
  • Comfortable working from first principles. 
  • Good knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly 
  • Working knowledge of Nx or Solidworks. 
  • Tool and methodology development experience. 
  • Excellent level of spoken and written English (additional languages a plus). 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as good written and oral communication skills. 

Beneficial Requirements: 

  • Proficient in Siemens Simcenter/NX Nastran. 
  • DO160g testing experience 
  • Proficiency in composite (FRP) design, sizing, and failure analysis including through FEA. 
  • Vibration and noise analysis experience. 
  • Experience in the creation of complex aerospace 3D CAD and mechanical engineering drawings. 

Knowledge of aerospace standards.  

Full product design life-cycle experience. 

Rig design and welding.

We’re seeking a Engineer – Structural Analysis (Safety) to join our rapidly growing team. Reporting to our Head of Vehicle Attributes, you will require specialised experience in automotive structural crash analysis using LS-Dyna. The role involves the set-up and analysis of various vehicle crash simulations, as well as conducting physical test correlation. This engineer is expected to interpret analysis results to guide design progression, to ensure that vehicles meet regulatory and consumer safety standards.

This pivotal role will operate in a hybrid capacity from our offices near Leamington Spa. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the most visionary minds in the automotive field.

What you’ll do

  • Your primary responsibility will be to use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess the Crashworthiness performance of vehicle structures and subsystems to help guide the design. 
  • The role will include build of full vehicle FE models and subsystems, load-case derivation, analysis set-up and execution, post-processing of results to generate design recommendations.
  • You are expected to liaise with the design.
  • Additionally, you will support R&D activities and the development of tools and techniques to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the analysis department.

Who you are

It’s anticipated that you will be an engineer with relevant experience working in the automotive industry. You should have an engineering degree and experience working within a team environment.

A sound knowledge of vehicle structures and safety systems is desired.

The following skills and attributes are required:

  • Finite element meshing and model assembly using Hypermesh/ANSA/Primer.
  • Crash simulation using LS Dyna (sub system or full vehicle). Experience with other solvers such as Radioss or Pamcrash also considered.
  • Detect improvement opportunities for vehicle structural performance, consider effective countermeasures, confirm their effects and propose them to designers.
  • Hand calculations to support initial design concepts.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients
  • Quick learner with good time management skills
