Are you ready to take on the role of Associate Director - Structural Engineer - Renewable Energy in our rapidly expanding renewable energy team. You will be responsible for undertaking a technical role on projects within our energy business; typically, our projects are associated with the generation, storage, transmission and distribution of energy both in the UK and Ireland and countries throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Projects include all stages of design from feasibility to detailed design and site construction supervision both in the UK and internationally. Our clients are a mix between large energy utility generators to private developers.
**Here's what you'll do:**
As our new Associate Director - Structural Engineer - Renewable Energy, you will be a senior member of the team and responsible for developing and leading project delivery and developing and maintaining client relationships. A particular focus will be on leading and growing the team's technical engineering capabilities.
You will review and generate technical and contractual information from both internal and external sources.
Other aspects of the role include:
+ Liaise with clients, manage project work on a day-to-day basis and ensure that the work is delivered within the agreed timescale and budgets.
+ Coordinate multi-disciplinary design of renewable energy infrastructure.
+ Respond to technical queries raised by project teams.
+ Act as Lead Verifier on projects including technical feasibility studies and design reports in the capacity of lead structural engineering.
+ Direct junior members of staff and mentor graduate engineers.
Successful candidates will be deployed to work on different projects and will include leading engineering teams for the following types of technologies.
+ On and offshore wind
+ Solar PV
+ Hydroelectric - run of river and pumped storage
+ Grid connection works - cable route and substation civil
+ Hydrogen production and storage

+ BEng (Hons) degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
+ Chartered status or actively working towards chartership
+ Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) certification is advantageous
This role has a strong technical focus and requires candidates to have a background in structural engineering and preferably experience in the energy sector, specifically in renewable energy systems, and demonstrate a high degree of technical competency.
Candidates with general engineering experience within the energy market would be preferable. Specific areas of desirable experience include the following.
+ Medium and high voltage grid connection works, including cable routing and specific experience with National Grid.
+ Hydroelectric design - both run of river and pumped storage.
+ Onshore wind - ideally with recent onsite experience, including projects with turbines >180m tip height.

This is an exciting time for AECOM as we continue to build our global business. As an Associate Director you will have the opportunity to contribute to leading and shaping the structural engineering team. You will also be a key member of the Buildings + Places team with an opportunity to grow into a role to help drive the growth of the business across the South East and London Region. A significant part of your role will be client facing, alongside managing and running projects.
You would also be expected to contribute to the identification of new project leads, securing new and repeat business. You will therefore need to be adept at engaging with clients and other professionals at the inception stage of projects and use your engineering expertise to make a significant contribution to emerging design concepts.
**What you'll do!**
We would expect you to hold existing experience in delivery of projects from inception through to completion and an ability to run and manage resources in the delivery of these projects. Ideally you would hold existing client knowledge and have emerging as well as selected established relationships with the hope of utilising and growing these relationships to secure opportunities for AECOM.
The immediate work for any successful applicant would focus on working on heritage, refurbishment, and fit out projects.

About the team
Global Realty Building Design & Engineering (GRBDE) is the centralized, Architectural and Engineering subject matter expert for Global Customer Fulfillment, Amazon Transportation Services, and Global Delivery Services. The primary functions of GRBDE are to create and maintain facility design templates, criteria, and guidelines on behalf of our customers, and centralize facility construction standards, and global design references for output of frugality and the highest standards for those templates. The team creates value for the Operations Network by aggregating business and cross-functional requirements to drive cost control, operational functionality efficiency, consistency, and safety to facilitate rapid decision making.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field with 5 additional years of qualifying experience
- Experience in fire protection design engineering or construction
- Knowledge of fire protection industry standards
- Experience with design review processes and standard development
- Ability to interpret construction documents and technical specifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical writing experience including documentation and training materials
- Experience in industrial construction projects
- Licensed Fire Protection Engineer certification
- Knowledge of BS & ICC Codes, NFPA Standards, and FM requirements
- Experience with performance-based fire protection design
- Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems commissioning
- Strong analytical capabilities
