Magdalen College is seeking to appoint a College Mentor for Students to provide practical and informed advice to students at the College regarding welfare matters, and to work closely and sensitively with the wider group concerned with the welfare of undergraduate and graduate students within the College.
The successful candidate will have relevant experience, which might include providing academic skills support, pastoral care in an academic setting, familiarity with the issues faced by students with a range of conditions, including ADHD, autism, and SpLDs, experience in dealing with a range of psychological, emotional, and practical problems, and helping students to develop their independence and to build resilience. It is envisaged that the appointee could combine this position with an existing research, teaching, or other professional role, but no particular arrangement is expected, and the College welcomes applications from a wide variety of professional backgrounds.
This fixed-term post runs from 5 January 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter) to 30 September 2026. There is a possibility of re-appointment thereafter.

Our Ground Engineering United Kingdom and Ireland (UK&I) team comprises 150 people and provides services ranging from project management, feasibility studies, ground investigation design and interpretation, detailed design, contract administration and construction supervision for ground engineering works in UK&I and overseas. The purpose of the Education Support Worker (ESW) role is to support a group of students, defined by the College as vulnerable young people. This includes students that are currently or have previously been Looked After.
You will join a busy team in our student services Wellbeing team where you will support a caseload of students to engage well with their education and therefore to have the best chance of being successful on their course. You will work closely with a wide variety of professionals including our internal college wellbeing and teaching delivery teams as well as external social workers, support workers and carers from different Local Authorities.
The role is focussed on co-ordinating and contributing to support meetings such as Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings, communicating planned targets, actions, and progress to teaching delivery staff, parents / carers, and managers as well as monitoring and supporting individual students to so that they are able to maintain consistent attendance and achievement on their chosen course.
A thorough understanding of Looked After Children (LAC), Leaving Care, and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) processes, along with insight into the barriers to learning commonly faced by this cohort, is essential for success in this role.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, reliable and motivated graduate looking to gain meaningful experience in education. A 2:1 or 1st Class degree from a top 30 UK university is preferred, and any prior experience working with young people will be an advantage. You should have strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and a genuine desire to help students reach their full potential.

- £444+ per week, pro rata to term time only
- Full-time, long-term contract (November–July)
- Term-time only
