The role holder has responsibility for developing and delivering the ESG Strategy, Policy, Metrics for WHR EMEA having first obtained the necessary approvals for ESG objectives. They will not only need to provide thought leadership but also have the resilience and independence to present and argue the case for divisional strategic objectives to both the EMEA and Global Committees.
They are required to work with several key internal and external stakeholders across across the EMEA Division, International Divisions and the WHR US Corporate office to assist in goal setting and achieving progress against key WHR objectives.
They will be based in London reporting directly to the Chief People & Operations Officer EMEA and will develop ESG and Sustainability programmes that add value to WHR franchisees, assist WHR with achieving brand objectives and drive revenue for the organisation.

The role holder is required to support diverse teams of people driving the inclusion of EMEA ESG Strategy objectives into all departmental objectives. This includes:

1. Develop, report on and drive improvement in an agreed set of key performance indicators relating to Sustainability and build internal/ external stakeholder engagement.
2. Act as subject matter expert - creating reports, providing content for press releases, communications and presentations for the EMEA leadership as required, relating to Sustainability.
3. Partner with business leaders across the EMEA business to drive programmes to improve Wyndham Green performance.
4. Work with external strategic partners such as the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance as well as others to ensure WHR policies and programmes take into account latest developments.
5. Monitor global regulations, their impact and application on WHR operations within the Division.
**Complexity/ Scope**

An exciting role has opened up in our Legal & Board Governance Collective for a senior sustainability lead with a proven track record in shaping and delivering complex sustainability initiatives. In particular, we are looking for proven experience in assessing and implementing decarbonisation strategies aligned to company goals. This role is crucial in embedding our sustainability commitments into our corporate strategy and daily operation.nIn this role, you will report to the Director of Sustainability, work with a variety of stakeholders across the business, and deploy program management capabilities with deep ESG expertise to drive tangible business and environmental outcomes. The role requires working with evolving information in a fast-paced organisation and synthesising large volumes of data into actionable plans aligned with Monzo’s goals.

Responsibilities

Strategic development:

contribute to the evolution of Monzo’s long-term sustainability strategy, identifying risks, opportunities, and best practices to keep us at the forefront of the sector.

Operationalise our climate strategy:

own the climate strategy, leading end-to-end decarbonisation delivery, including renewable energy procurement, supplier engagement, tracking performance against targets, and meeting public climate commitments.

Regulatory expertise:

act as an internal expert on evolving environmental and climate-related regulations (e.g., TCFD, CSRD) to ensure compliance and strategic alignment.

Business case creation:

develop compelling business cases for sustainability initiatives, articulating ROI, risk mitigation, and brand value to secure investment and stakeholder buy-in.

Performance & reporting:

devise and track key metrics, prepare reports and presentations for senior stakeholders, including the Board, to support strategic decision-making.

Cross-functional leadership:

collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., Product, Finance, Marketing, People) to embed sustainability principles into workstreams and decision-making.

Stakeholder management:

manage relationships with external partners to advance the sustainability agenda.

Qualifications

Proven leader in climate strategy and delivery , with extensive experience developing decarbonisation roadmaps (including Scope 3 accounting and Science Based Targets) and delivering data-driven projects.

Deep subject matter expertise

in ESG topics, with a focus on environmental sustainability (e.g., carbon accounting, reporting frameworks, renewable energy).

Commercial acumen

with experience building business cases and linking sustainability outcomes to financial performance and corporate strategy.

Exceptional communication

skills to articulate complex sustainability issues to diverse audiences, including board members.

Strategic & proactive mindset

with the ability to identify problems, take initiative, and implement improvements in a fast-paced environment.

Influencing skills

with a track record of engaging across levels to drive change and embed practices.

8+ years

of relevant work experience in complex organisations with a proven track record of driving outcomes.

Overview
We're seeking an experienced Environmental Sustainability Lead for a 12-month maternity cover contract on a nationally significant infrastructure project based in Suffolk. The role will be pivotal in leading the implementation of environmental sustainability and ESG commitments, covering areas such as Carbon, Water, Circular Economy, and Nature, while managing and ensuring compliance with key certifications including BREEAM Infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Lead delivery of the Environmental Sustainability Implementation Strategy across all ESG areas.

Act as subject matter expert on ESG compliance and sustainability, providing strategic and technical input to support project delivery and continuous improvement.

Maintain and oversee compliance with PAS 2080:2023 Certified Management System and relevant environmental sustainability commitments.

Drive delivery of BREEAM Infrastructure Certification (targeting "Very Good" rating).

Lead collation and reporting of ESG metrics for internal and external stakeholders including regulatory bodies and investors.

Provide assurance across the project and supply chain to ensure ESG requirements are met throughout design, procurement, and execution.

Represent the project in engagements with regulators (e.g., EA) and support audits and inspections.

Lead and develop a small team of ESG professionals.

Skills & Experience Required
Essential:

Proven experience in environmental sustainability, ESG compliance, and implementation in a UK construction or infrastructure context.

Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations, sustainability reporting, and best practice frameworks.

Demonstrated success in managing relationships with regulators, investors, and public bodies.

Degree in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field.

Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable:

Experience on major infrastructure or regulated projects.

Qualified in CEEQUAL Assessments and/or member of a professional body with relevant chartership.

Familiarity with EMS systems conforming to BS EN ISO14001 standards.
