  • Strong IT and data analysis skills, with proficiency in Excel and reporting tools.

  • Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required.

**About the Role**
Global Technical: Science and Technology (S&T) provides technical leadership for Diageo's Whisky, Spirits and Beer business globally.
This role provides subject matter expertise in testing and development of disruptive packaging materials and formats. Key examples are Sustainable Packaging and Circular Packaging projects. Diageo's packaging footprint will evolve in response to our Society 2030 goals resulting in more diverse materials and packaging formats. This role supports project teams to ensure these new materials and packaging are fit for purpose. The role holder will also be expected to use their subject matter expertise to influence and shape the exciting packaging agenda.
The role holder will support project teams with material risk assessments and testing. Testing will be carried out in Diageo (primarily Menstrie) or given the complexity of materials an increased amount of specialist outsourced testing may have to be used. The role holder will be expected to develop the testing network and methods in response to new risks.
The role holder should have a knowledge of existing Diageo packaging test methods and will be expected to support the standard packaging agenda where required.
The role is based at the Packaging Technology laboratory at the Diageo Technical Centre, Menstrie. The role holder will be expected to communicate with sites around the world and occasionally travel. This role reports to the Laboratory Senior Specialist- Packaging (Packaging Laboratory Manager).
**Key Accountabilities**
+ **Compliance -** Operate within, support and contribute to the compliance agenda of the laboratory (e.g. H&S, Finance, Environment).
+ **Packaging & Novel Materials Testing SME -** Experience of the packaging materials used across the beverage alcohol industry and experience of testing these materials. Knowledge of development of emerging/ novel materials, risk management and test method development. Positivity, curiosity, ownership and confidence to work in novel material development.
+ **Component Testing** - Expert knowledge of packaging test methods, equipment maintenance and method development. Carries out testing in the laboratory. Diageo Design for Quality- understanding of component use within Diageo processes especially component-to-component and component machine interfaces. Ability to carry out full materials risk assessment for prediction of potential risks and development of suitable mitigation.
+ **Project Management** - Ability to manage complex projects and programmes. Comfortable working with ambiguity and shaping this into deliverable project landmarks.
+ **Communication -** Ability to translate science into motivating and influential stakeholder communication. Ownership and awareness to act on business benefits, commercials, risks and opportunities.
+ **Support** - Ability to apply technical knowledge and experience to lead solutions to complex and urgent technical problems.
**Experience Required**
+ As a minimum at entry level the jobholder should be degree qualified in scientific or engineering field. Alternatively, a minimum of 5 years' experience in a materials production or suitable laboratory.
+ Extensive experience of production and testing of materials used in the food and drink packaging. Experience of testing novel/ emerging materials and methods would be beneficial.
+ Good working knowledge of hygiene standards including HACCP.
+ Lead ISO9001 audit qualification and experience would be beneficial.
+ Good and active network in material science inside and outside Diageo in order to support the team as a Global Centre of Excellence.
