Premier Work Support are currently recruiting for a Cleaning Assistant to start working at a site in York on a part time, temporary basis with an immediate start.

You will be working independently to provide cleaning services, to complete daily cleaning tasks across 8 hours a week - flexibility in hours is key.

The hours of work are Monday and Wednesday, 9.00am to 1.00pm.

Duties will include:

• Touch-point cleaning and sanitising throughout the building.
• Cleaning the canteen and restrooms - microwave keypads/doors, dishwasher handle, cupboard & fridge doors, light & socket switches, bin lids, taps, toilet doors/flushes, soap & hand towel dispensers, etc.
• Cleaning the entrance doors, desks, keyboards, printer switches, etc. as required.

Full training for this role will be given.

Please Note for health and safety purposes you must have a good understanding of the English language, both verbally and written as you will be working alone without supervision.

T he Role

Housekeeping and Cleaning Assistants are responsible for delivering a range of cleaning/housekeeping services including the cleaning and servicing of student bedrooms, bathrooms, guest accommodation, facilities, offices and common areas of the College used by students and commercial customers .

Teams ensure agreed standards are maintained , with particular reference to student and customer comfort and satisfaction.

The Role and Department

As Housekeeping and Cleaning Services Assistant, you will deliver a range of cleaning and housekeeping services across University premises, including the cleaning and servicing of facilities, offices and common areas, used by students, staff and commercial customers.

The Estates and Facilities Directorate provides a number of essential services to Durham University and is responsible for managing, maintaining and developing the infrastructure and building fabric of the various campuses.

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the cleaning team, ensuring all areas are cleaned to the highest standards.
• Develop and implement efficient cleaning schedules and rotas.
• Conduct regular inspections of work areas to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to hygiene protocols.
• Train new cleaning staff on procedures, safety regulations, and the proper use of equipment and cleaning agents.
• Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, ordering replacements as needed and ensuring efficient stock rotation.
• Address any cleaning-related issues or concerns promptly and effectively, liaising with facility management where necessary.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and COSHH regulations, promoting a safe working environment.
• Maintain accurate records of staff attendance, work completion, and supply usage.
• Communicate effectively with the cleaning team, providing clear instructions and feedback.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of cleaning services and operational efficiency.
• Assist with administrative tasks related to payroll, scheduling, and reporting, potentially from a remote location.

• Previous experience in a supervisory role within the cleaning or facilities management sector.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Strong understanding of cleaning procedures, techniques, and health and safety regulations (including COSHH).
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct quality checks and identify areas for improvement.
• Basic IT skills for record-keeping and communication (e.g., email, basic office software).
