Key job responsibilities

On a typical day engineers will focus on operational stability, dive deep into understanding the root cause as well as driving mitigations for customer issues, investigate why a metric is trending the wrong way and consult with peers at Amazon. We own our services and believe in making out-of-hours support as painless as possible. To achieve this, we implement Operational Excellence best practices and commit to deliver proactively.
Some of these key responsibilities are:
* Collaborating with multiple development teams to reliably deliver AWS services into production environments.
* Creating and improving processes for releasing, monitoring, and patching services.
* Identifying issues and driving solutions to ensure rock-solid stability and performance.
A day in the life
Our Systems Engineering roles help engineers develop a broad range of skills. They utilise their Linux skills to solve problems and deliver innovative solutions, keep software up-to-date and provide data and metrics that help manage the capacity and efficiency of our services. They draw on their systems knowledge to identity and troubleshoot systems related issues. They communicate clearly and collaborate with others to deliver results. They are self-starters, comfortable dealing with ambiguity and change. They are customer-obsessed, always looking to understand customer pain points and find resolutions quickly and completely.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or relevant work experience
Working knowledge of Linux system administration
Experience of systems automation using BASH, Python, Perl, etc
Experience of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP)
Good troubleshooting skills at all levels, from application to network to host
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to cloud computing concepts and design considerations
Experience in a production environment
Experience of monitoring frameworks (such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar)
