We have specialist tax teams in Banking, Asset Management, Insurance, Broking and Funds.

A look into the role

As a Financial Services Tax Assistant Manager you will:
  • help financial services businesses to optimise their tax position, manage tax risk and meet tax compliance obligations, from UK and international tax structuring considerations to operational tax issues.
  • be given significant exposure to clients, working alongside large and complex financial institutions to manage their tax compliance obligations.
  • provide UK and international tax advisory and compliance services.
  • develop your commercial understanding of different types of financial institutions, how they operate in different business, product and geographical areas.
  • manage your own diverse client portfolio.
  • develop existing relationships both inside and outside of the firm.
  • have access to the firm’s training and development opportunities to broaden your technical and commercial skillsets.

Knowing you’re right for us

Joining us as an Assistant Manager in FS Tax, the minimum criteria you’ll need is a professional qualification (CTA / ACA / ACCA or equivalent), and UK Tax experience.

It would be great if you also had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.
  • An interest in or experience working with financial services businesses
  • Strong communication skills in supporting the team and delivering work to clients
  • A willingness and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience of working within a tax compliance role with exposure to advisory work.
  • Flexibility in order to juggle client commitments and meet deadlines

Our Reward Advisory Services (RAS) team forms a crucial part of our specialist Tax offering - working closely with clients to design and implement the right employee incentive arrangements for a wide range of mid-market clients, including those that are privately owned and PE backed.

To fully grow our RAS practice we will need specialist practitioners on the ground supported by the national RAS practice and local stakeholders. We’re happy to talk flexible working and consider reduced hours and job shares, we’ll support you to balance your work and life.

A look into the role

As a Tax Manager in our national Reward Advisory Services team you will:
  • Work primarily with mid-market clients, providing highly technical reward advice in a commercial and practical context.
  • Deliver and advise on equity reward projects, and implementation of share plans, and specialist tax support on transactions.
  • Work on a wide variety of projects including: tax advantaged share plans, growth shares, cash plans, buy-side and sell-side transaction support, and ad hoc ERS matters.
  • Create bespoke solutions for clients by considering their unique position, providing technical advice and valuable insight, whilst considering their wider structuring needs.
  • Collaborate across the network with many other service lines including Corporate Finance, Valuations and People Advisory.
  • Manage graduates and trainees and help with their development.
  • Take responsibility for managing client accounts and lead on day to day client relationships. There is opportunity also to be involved in team’s business development and go to market strategy.

Knowing you’re right for us

Joining us as a Manager, the minimum criteria you’ll need is tax experience within Equity Reward. You’ll have a professional qualification (CTA / ATT / ACA) or equivalent, or be a qualified lawyer.

It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.
  • Technical expertise designing and implementing employee incentive plans.
  • An excellent record of client service and an ability to manage your time efficiently working to tight deadlines.
  • A proactive approach to the management of client projects including taking responsibility for billing and fee management.
  • Experience of business development or a desire to develop the relevant skills.
  • Document implementation (drafting or review), and / or modelling skills.

  • You will be responsible for managing various teams across corporate tax advisory, compliance and audit of tax engagements.

  • Be a role-model to junior team members in our London office in the delegation and review of work as well as fostering their learning and development.



What You'll Bring:
  • Extensive experience in leading a portfolio of corporate tax engagements in the Banking & Asset Management space across tax compliance and/or tax advisory services.
  • Keen interest to maintain up-to-date knowledge of broader business tax, international tax, regulatory and tax accounting areas (e.g. OECD Pillar 2 – GloBE).
  • Willingness to take on team management and development roles within the FS Tax team.
  • Broad experience of managing financials on client engagements, setting timetables, delivering on budgets and negotiating fees with clients.
  • Experience of identifying opportunities for business development across FS Tax and other service lines.

Job Description

As a Tax Accountant you will play a crucial role in supporting Tax Manager in the day -to-day tax related and financial activities. You will work closely with the finance team and provide assistance in tax reporting, compliance and related functions.

You are someone who maintains a high level of ethical standards, abide by professional codes of conduct and handle sensitive tax information responsibly. You will demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in handling changing tax regulations, deadlines and priorities.

You'll help our hyper-growth and global expansion by supporting the Tax Manager in all aspects of tax compliance, reporting and tax planning for multiple corporate entities that operate globally in different countries.

You will embrace a mindset of continuous learning and professional development, stay updated on industry trends and tax regulations. What you'll be doing

  • Preparing tax returns including VAT, OSS VAT, GST/HST, SST and sales tax returns for UK group and overseas entities
  • Preparing Balance Sheet reconciliations for direct and indirect tax liabilities and VAT turnover reconciliations
  • Preparing and posting monthly tax journal entries
  • Assisting with tax filings and tax payments in line with deadlines
  • Preparing monthly tax cashflow and liaising with treasury department on a timely tax payments submission and reconciliation
  • Managing monthly tax submissions in AvaTax and maintain an up-to date ECM database
  • Maintaining an up-to date indirect tax files
  • Supporting the Tax Manager in managing tax obligations including PSA and STBV reporting
  • Coordinating and supporting preparation of R&D claims and Transfer Pricing documentation for UK group and overseas entities
  • Assisting the Tax Manager in ensuring that all tax returns and regular reports are prepared and filed on a timely basis (e.g. income certification, gross receipts tax, annual reports and business licences)
  • Providing assistance to Tax Manager in responding to tax related queries

from internal or external stakeholders on a timely basis

  • Assisting with external and internal audit processes
  • Assisting the Tax Manager with tax audits and in liaising with HMRC/overseas tax authorities
  • Supporting the Tax Manager by assisting with ad hoc projects or tasks as required
  • Contributing to building team capability, including mentoring and managing future direct reports

Qualifications

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Tax Accountant or in a similar tax-related role
  • Strong interest in direct/indirect taxes
  • Good understanding of the key tax areas
  • Familiarity with NetSuite or similar ERP systems
  • Understanding of AvaTax or similar tax software
  • Strong time management skills, ability to stay calm under pressure when juggling multiple projects
  • Flexible, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities. Able to work as part of a team and able to use your own initiative to solve problems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with external and internal stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach

Desirable

  • Experience within a fast-paced, fast-growth Tech environment
  • Finance/Tax qualification or degree in accounting

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and submit corporation tax returns and other statutory tax filings.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax legislation and deadlines.
  • Provide tax advice to the business on various matters, including VAT, PAYE, and other relevant taxes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies to optimise the company's tax position.
