About the roleThe Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries (CMCI) seeks to hire a Lecturer in Contemporary Art (Education). This post will contribute to teaching, leadership and pastoral support across our expanding portfolio of courses: including BA Culture, Media & Creative Industries; MA Arts & Cultural Management, MA Cultural & Creative Industries; MA Digital Futures (online) & MA Global Media Industries. Teaching is framed around a lecture/seminar structure, and while there are some practice-based assessments, students are undertaking theoretical programs and engage with wide subject knowledges across culture, media and creative industries.
CMCI is distinctive in its commitment to interdisciplinarity, therefore the position may require teaching beyond the area of contemporary art histories and theories. Indicatively, the post holder will be asked to contribute to modules, 6AAIC013 The Art World: Issues in Contemporary Art; 7AAIC112 Art & Globalisation; 6AAIC007 Communicating and Writing about Art & Culture; 5AAIC009 Youth Cultures; 7AAICM01 Research Approaches and Dissertation; 5AAIC012 Managing Cultural projects and 4AAIC004 Cultural production in a Changing World. However, the exact teaching allocation will be discussed upon appointment. The post holder will also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Culture, Media & Creative Industries with a specialism in Art History, Fine Art or the Art World (or a closely related discipline). They will be a highly effective educator, with experience of both face-to-face and online teaching and assessment in Higher Education, a commitment to student learning and welfare, and an aptitude for working within an interdisciplinary framework.
