We are seeking a Technical SEO Specialist who deeply understands how search engines crawl, index, and rank content. You’ll play a pivotal role in building a robust technical foundation for our SEO performance, collaborating closely with developers, content teams, and product leads to ensure our web properties are search-friendly, fast, and scalable.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct regular technical SEO audits and implement fixes (crawlability, site speed, redirects, broken links, etc.)
Optimize site structure, internal linking, sitemaps, robots.txt, and canonical tags
Own schema markup implementation and validate rich result eligibility
Work with engineering on Core Web Vitals, server performance, and JavaScript rendering issues

3+ years of experience in technical SEO or web performance roles

Familiarity with server-side rendering, CMS platforms (WordPress, Webflow, Shopify), and CDNs

Role purpose and overview
As a key part of The Telegraph’s technical SEO team, you will report to the Senior Technical SEO Manager and be a pod responsible for the site’s technical performance. It is a brand new position that is responsible for the website’s technical health, working very closely with the senior team lead, actioning technical fixes discovered by yourself, the SEO agency and your team lead.
As a team, you will manage the SEO agency, set KPIs around technical health and support the technical lead on being the go-between between product, tech, SEO and editorial and support on a number of technical projects around the business.

Key responsibilities
- Being the chief support for the technical SEO lead, actioning technical improvements and supporting on technical KPIs and reporting

Job Purpose:
This role will be situated in the SEO team at Spotlight Sports Group and will be responsible for helping to grow the organic search traffic across the group by devising and overseeing the execution of the Technical SEO and AI Search strategies. Accountabilities:
- Develop and implement technical SEO strategies across our group-owned brands, aligned with business priorities and commercial KPIs.

- Work closely with product, UX and tech teams to implement technical SEO requirements, driving measurable improvements in site visibility, organic traffic and conversions.

Experience, skills and qualifications:
- You have substantial experience in technical SEO roles, and possess in-depth knowledge of SEO best practices for news publishers and large websites.
- Hands-on experience with log file analysis, crawling and indexation diagnostics, core web vitals and rendering solutions.
- Project management skills are essential, and familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or Kanban frameworks is advantageous.
- Passionate about ‘GEO’ and competent in using AI tools to automate tasks, synthesise research and generate solutions
- Proficiency in Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Excel is a must.
- Familiar with SEO tools (e.g., SEMRush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Lumar or similar).
- Staying up-to-date with the latest SEO trends and webmaster updates is crucial.
