Our client, Yamazaki Mazak is a leading global manufacturing company based in Worcester.

This is an excellent opportunity to work for a market leading Machine Tool manufacturer who have been at the forefront of the industry for many years.

Due to increased investment, our client now has a requirement for a Technical Support Engineer working within the UK Service Department (UK Sales) for the Spares Department and reporting to the UK Service Manager.

Job Description

The Role

This is a technical role, supporting customers along with breakdown and service engineers based across the country.  Being office based; the role would ideally suit a Midlands based candidate with a positive attitude to support the field-based colleagues. It may require occasional field support and travel across the UK. The successful candidate will be expected to use this opportunity to build on their machine tool experience and knowledge and become a key member of the Technical Support Team.

The Person

Essential Criteria

  • An engineer with electrical or mechanical knowledge and understanding of Mazak machine tools
  • Experience of Mazatrol controls, machine operations and axis movements
  • Understanding of Mazak product range of machines
  • Experience of fault diagnosis
  • Understanding mechanical drawings and schematic electrical drawings
  • Understanding structure of machines and how they work
  • Working alongside current engineers supporting customer requirements
  • Identification of parts from current manuals
  • Creating incidents for workflow within the team
  • Able to find part numbers for mechanical and electrical items

  • A knowledge of windows-based applications
  • Team player, 'can do' attitude
  • Can communicate with customers at all levels
  • Excellent telephone manner

Job Purpose / Overview

  • The successful applicant will be a key member of the wider Technical Branch of the Joint Design Office (JDO).
  • The JDO is also responsible managing design changes as well as managing design configuration during construction, installation and commissioning. It is responsible for the management of the non-permanent design, temporary works and As-Built information.

  • Support the drafting of technical responses under supervision, ensuring alignment with project standards and expectations across stakeholders.
  • Engage directly with construction teams to maintain visibility of programme drivers and incorporate emerging site priorities into technical planning.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the delivery of SFS workshops, capturing outputs and ensuring actions are closed efficiently across disciplines.
  • Maintain ownership of the Standard Field Solutions (SFS) Catalogue, driving resolution progress and ensuring alignment with field conditions.
  • Contribute to process documentation activities, helping to identify inefficiencies and embed continuous improvement practices.
  • Take responsibility for developing and maintaining PowerBI dashboards used to monitor resolution activity and inform governance reporting.

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or other Science
  • Understanding of design models and engineering drawings

You will liaise with Field Sales Engineers and other staff to achieve the branch objectives and sales performance and as is normal in a small team environment engage in other duties. It is also expected that you have commercial ability and awareness to generate quotation for customers and are competent to judge the competitive situation needed to win the order whilst being mindful of profitability.

In order to perform this role successfully you will need technical electrical knowledge, there is flexibility on the qualification if you can illustrate your knowledge, product applications knowledge and commercial awareness. The ideal candidate may already be in a similar role as an internal sales engineer, technical support engineer, an electrical engineer looking to move into a commercial environment with the ability to illustrate good customer and administrative skills, or a graduate engineer with customer experience in a sales environment looking to develop their career in technical sales.

Knowledge and Experience

  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • None mandatory but relevant knowledge and experience must be demonstrated or possibly ONC/HNC in Electrical engineering (or other electrical engineering qualification)
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and data entry systems
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Experience in similar sales /customer service environment.
  • Experience with an electrical engineering role, or a background in electrical distribution would be an advantage.
